@superchunk, on that graph, x360 had a PRICECUT and PS3 just GT5P release. =))
After that PS3 numbers were always near or above 100k.

Anyway, there was only GT5P bundle in Europe for last cople months.
NOW we will get WW MGS4 bundle. Moreover, in USA there will again released 80GB model, which will have additional boost. =)

GTA4 wasn`t bundled. Had a multiplatform launch.
Maybe MGS potentially has only 5-6 mln. sellthrough, still that`s MANY people. And NOT all of them bought PS3.
+ MGS4 will define NEXTGEN gaming for next years. =)

Well, just wait 2 weeks and you will see. :)

p.s. i wish Europe and Japan would have 80GB model too, then increase would be BIGger. =)

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Focus on the big picture people. WW trend for PS3 has been going down for the 1st half of the year.

and gosh... sales are going down from since the holiday season? Are you telling me mid year is normally console dry-season??? Gosh, I would've never known.


 Wii's trend is going up and the 360's seems about flat. Only the PS3's has been in decline. Thanks for the sarcasm.

[Edited the ramblings of an old man.] I think MGS4's success will be against the trend and it will draw in more types of gamers than its predecessors that stuck with a rather conservative formula, but I wouldn't be as bold to say it's a "savior." System-seller? Possibly. The game has a rather robust single-player experience and a feature-packed online component to be enjoyed. Any long-lasting effect to happen would be the reintroduction of the 80GB SKU which should stimulate sales well enough until Sony completes the rumored GSX chip emulator for the 40GB SKU rumored to hit this fall.

Wii's sales number is based on supply... although I'm very interested in knowing your definition of the difference between "in decline" and "flat"

I have already read around 5 posts where peoples expectations are between 400k-600k for PS3 during MGS4 week. That means they expect it to even more than double. However, some of the posters are of course questionable, but still, the expectations are there, silly as they are. In fact the highest one of 600k I read tonight.

I thought we were talking about "Others"? Why do people keep saying Wii sales are based on supply when it isn't supply constrained in Others or Japan?

You can tell how Others and Japan are stable while NA is crazy due to it actually being supply constrained.

see the spike before GTA 4....despite 360 price drop GT 5 prologue resulted in that spike...only a demo..

 Okay.. i'm sick and tired of this.. whenever GT5P being a demo is a bad thing for the ps3 it is always corrected ten times that is so much more than just a demo, but when it is positive for the progress of the ps3, it can be called a demo and noone looks twice..  i don't know why i'm bringing this up.. i just think there needs to be a balance
