Forums - Gaming Discussion - Resident Evil 5 Platform

With Capcom holding back any concrete information on this game we've know was in the making for the last year and a half, many are left to wonder what platforms we'll see this title on. After all, all we have is a pre-rendered video from back in the day and the statement that they'd be happy to make it on all three consoles. Is RE4: Wii Edition and RE: Umbrella Chronicles test runs for the possibility of a Wii exclusive RE5 or merely compensation? Will we instead see a PS360 launch? Capcom has already voiced its dissaproval of Sony's PS3's control scheme and business ethics and seem to be more comfortable developing for the 360, DS and Wii. What's your call?

I think the same RE will be on the Wii and 360/PS3, let me explain, if they are already making a RE5 for the 360/PS3 it's coming out for the Wii. If they are waiting to see how RE4 and RE:UC sale then they may make a brand new RE for the Wii, but if RE5 is in development for the 360/PS3 then I don't it will come to the Wii. Or maybe they will get a downgraded version like the PS2 got from the GC. Capcom goes where the money is otherwise RE4 would have been a GC exclusive.

360/PS3 and it's gonna be very high on the graphics side judging by the direction of Dead Rising and Lost Planet.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

LOL Wii exclusive.

Common sense says PS3/360/PC

They may very well release it on all machines...handhelds included.

I reckon, they maybe started development on the PS2 if it's been in development for 18 months and the PSP is yet to get a RE title.

To make sure they get enough coverage and get their money back, they'll probably release it on 360/PS3 with cutdown versions on the Wii/PS2/PSP and possibly a DS version as well...although I doubt it.

RE sales on the Wii will be an indication...I seriously doubt it will be a Wii exclusive.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

The game was announced for just the PS3 and 360. Yet considering what they are doing with RE4, a multiplatform release wouldn't surprise me.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Most likely Capcom is going to do the following:

Launch RE5 as PS3/360 exclusive. I HOPE for a day-and-date launch for both platforms (so we can truely judge which one sells better, rather than one getting the jump, invalidating any sort of ability to see if the 360 version can sell well in Japan @ the same time, and vice-versa with the PS3 model in the US).

IMO, Capcom will see how well RE:UC does before considering a Wii version. I think making a Wii version would be too complicated (as it wouldn't be a simple dumbed-down version).

However, if the PS3/360 versions don't do strongly, and RE:UC does incredible, expect a RE5 offshoot at a minimum. More possibly, we could see like a RE5+ for the Wii, adding to the storyline. That way the Wii gets a "real" Resident Evil ala RE0, and the PS3/360 version is still the definitive version.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Offshoots are all the Wii is getting from the big companies so far, better than nothing surely...

Also, you seriously think it's gonna sell better on 360 if it comes out the same day on PS3 in Japan?

This is the exact thing I hav ebeen wondering, and another thing that sucks is we may not ever get to see the full potential of the PS3. Why would developers push the graphics, when they can release it on the 360........Or better yet, make a top notch wii game and port it over to the PS3 and 360.

Lost Planet and Dead rising aren't necessaraly indicative of the direction RE5 is going graphically. Neither are RE games, just Capcom games. Using this logic you could argue that RE Umbrella Chronicles is the direction RE5 will go graphically by proxy of title alone. The point is that it's moot to use prexisting games in this generation as dowing rods to see RE5's direction.

I remember hearing it would be on the PS3 and 360 but that Capcom wouldn't be against making a Wii version, at the time though, the Wii's development stats weren't yet available to them and since then they have avoided commenting on a platform altogether.

Capcom sided with Nintendo on the Gamecube because of the Gamecube's superior graphics (Xbox wasn't an option due to poor Japanese sales) and now they may very well do the same with this gen, pursuing the graphically superior consoles. Incidentally the PS2 was handed consolation games just like Umbrella Chronicles in the form of the Gun Survivor series and the Outbreak series, even a remake of Code Veronica just as the Wii is getting a remake of RE4. I figure we will see RE5 later released for the Wii as RE4 was later released for the PS2 assuming RE5 will be released as a PS360 exclusive first. The only real difference between this generation and the last is that Capcom has no agreements with any of the platforms as they did with Nintendo during the Gamecube, they claim to no longer be making exclusives for their major games.
