GTA IV is not the best game out there graphically.
Thus it cannot be perfect.
So should it really be getting 10s?
Or is something else at work here?

Agreed (Where's that agree emoticon in this forum?)

I'm just curious how GTAIV (PS3 version) scored 10 in graphics yet uncharted only managed to get a 9 from IGN.Also last time i checked GTA IV for Xbox 360 offered some extras... then shouldn't the PS3 version be incomplete to score a 10?

Anyway, there is nothing wrong with thunderbolt review... i could swear GTA is going to score a 10 from that site as well.

Well GTA IV is simply an iteration in the series with better tech (graphicsphysics.) There is no REAL jump between san andreas and GTA IV in the gameplay arena.

OOT however was a massive leap forward in all departments, and revolutionized a genre.

OOT WILL go down in history as a "better" game (I don't even really understand how that is gauged. You had more fun at the time of release playing one game over the other? Its all way too abstract and unsubstantiatable) than GTA IV but in my opinion OOT isn't even the best Zelda game. I found TP, LttP, LA more enjoyable than OOT.

Though, i really don't care what the makority of video game nerds (a term I usie lovingly) say is the 'best game ever' today. Enjoy your games. That IS the point of them.

Indeed, we could argue here till we're blue in the face (or would that be the hands?) but there will always be different opinions and it is an incredibly difficult task to come up with a system that can encompass all possibilities relating to why one game is better than another for absolutely everybody. At the moment we've just got numbers, but i'm sure I speak for most of us when I say gaming isn't about numbers, it's about the fun you have with games.

Go forth and enjoy your games, even if someone else thinks they are crap, you don't need them to validate your purchases if you do truly have fun with them.

Baked to perfection.

1 of 3 reasons.

1) Hype is going to help your review score.

2) Different reviewer... this one having lower standarsd

3) reviewers are weird.

But that Thunderbold review was written like 2-3 weeks ago, before anyone knew about the critical acclaim GTA IV was getting.

Thread is an epic phail.

How can you call a thread “Epic Fail” when you obviously didn’t read it?

If you had read it, you would have seen that this had been pointed out, addressed by the OP (me), and apologized for.

Calling a thread an Epic Fail when you don’t read it, is Epic Fail.

I use "we" to mean the gaming community in general... and yes, VGChartz has some rabid OoT fans as well. I created a thread where I said, by todays standards, GTA4 (along with many other games) is better then OoT. I got flamed for 3 pages.

I would link it, but I don't want another three pages of flaming :p

I remember that thread, and your argument was fundamentally flawed.  By your logic, Hour of Victory would be a far better game than Super Mario World.  I seriously hope you don't believe that.

I guess the easiest factor to measure games in the greatest of all time charts would be fun factor. SMW is still incredibly fun, was Hour of victory anywhere near as fun as that? If they are tied on fun factor then I guess it goes down to the others like graphics, lasting appeal, etc.

My logic was not flawed. My logic was if a game came out today, under today’s standards for a video game, and it looked and played like Super Mario World, I think it would get an incredibly low score.

Look at this review. It gives it a 9 for graphics.

http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/launchreview.asp?reviewid=459476

Yes, it deserves a 9 FOR ITS DAY. But by today’s standards, it’s a joke.

You can finish the game in far less time then Heavenly Sword, and everyone bitches about that games length, yet SMW given high marks for value. Again, for its day, great, but by today’s standers, it sucks.

Also, I was not talking about how much fun it provided you when it was released. I mean how much fun does it provide you today. For people who never played it before now, not much.

You are really keen in keeping this topic alive while you just admit it was flawed to begin with..
Well, I'm not ranting on you but it would be alot more peaceful if you looked at the date before posting:P
Good luck with future posts. Watch your back now that people know that you don't think OoT is the best game out there:P!
Cheers,
Slash

You know what. Don't look at the HIGHEST RATED GAME as THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME. Games aren't reviewed for all time are they? So why say the game is going to be the best game of all time when you know a future game will eventually replace it. Instead say it is the BEST GAME FOR ITS TIME. That would be more correct. It would also make this thread / and I would love that.

I agree 100%, and that's what I was trying to say when I got flamed (in my other post). :)
