1. What does this mystical term "playing it well" mean?

Does it mean finishing the game, no matter its span, scope or length? Playing the game halfway thru? Getting a good grasp of the game and its offerings? Playing until the average attention span of a modern gamer (ie. 20 seconds) wears out? Throwing fecal matter on the game cover until some of it sticks?

Do I really have to beat Devil May Cry 3 on DMD (the hardest and most tedious difficulty of a really fucking hard game) to have some internet-sanctioned right to criticize it? Or complete Final Fantasy VIII if I just want to stop at the 6 hour mark, just because I "haven't played it well enough"?

When you have seen a decent sample of what the game has to offer and what it is all about, then you can criticize it IMO. From my gaming experience you can determine if the game is good or not based on the first 10-15% of the games primary mode (often this is the single player campaign, but can also be something else, ie. Warhawk). This trial period can't really exceed ten hours - no one should be expected to spend a full day playing a game they just don't like /can't get into.

2. & 3. IMO a game shouldn't have to be perfect to get a perfect score. It has to be (almost) flawless and peerless in its genre, though. While you could make a strong case for GTA being the best sandbox game so far, it sure as hell isn't flawless or near it. I consider this massive GTA 4 worship to be quite silly, and can't really understand why this game is hailed as the third coming of Super Mecha Death Christ - but then again, I'm probably the only person on this forum who considers OMF 2097 as one of the best fighting games ever.

4. Agreed. I don't like GTA and can't stand most modern shooters, but I won't - at least conciously - push my opinions on anyone else. Neither should anyone else, regardless of their game, console, religious idol or phallic symbol of choise. But this is still the Internet, and that's just wishful thinking.

5. Again, agreed. But I'd like to note just one thing - next time you're not aiming your condescending advice on anyone in particular, please use more fair and balanced examples in your argument. :P

But the best game ever made is on the Gamecube so technically they can have it. D:

I don't understand what's so great about the GTA franchise,I have played Vice city at my cousin's house and I tried to like it but still I got bored.I also played San Andreas and for me it felt like the same game.I'm not trying to say that the GTA franchise is bad or boring, it just doesn't appeal to me.But what is annoying is that everyone who dislikes the GTA series complains that GTA4 got a 10,if it got that score from review sites that are unbias like ign then I guess it deserves it.
