As of now, only New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is confirmed as a launch title. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey can be preordered. The others are TBD.

No source sorry, someone on a financial forum that I follow pretends that pre orders in China reached a total of 103820 units on first day.

If true, it'll be amazing

The number seems to be wrong to me.

When you directly go to the item (https://item.jd.com/100010343850.html) then you can switch between the colours and the numbers wont change. So I guess it is like for both colours combined. Still it is already at 62k right now.

Will be interesting to watch the number growing the next days.

I thought this release was going to take a while longer.
They have been working towards it for a while but getting into the chinese market is hard.

Well they managed to release it before christmas and New Years.
Seems like preorders are already going well.

And look at those ads :D

Note the one-child policy.

Interesting that they are only putting Mario titles out there at first.  What about Zelda, Smash Bros and Pokemon?

My best guess is that since Mario is the mascot, face/Golden Boy of Nintendo, and the most popular video game character in the world, Nintendo and Tencent feel the best strategy for launch is to go full force, all in with him to get the system going strong. I'm not sure how known or popular Zelda is over there, but obviously not as strong as Mario. I honestly don't know about Smash Bros. and Pokemon though.

The opportunity here is huge, but it sounds like they're not going all out or to be honest trying hard enough, so I'm keeping my expectations low.

According to the following article it took the PS4 nearly 3.5 years to achieve 1.5m in (official) sales in China, just for a bit of perspective. The Chinese market is a huge business opportunity for whoever manages to actually get a good foothold there, though it's easier said than done for many reasons.

I'm sure Switch being hybrid and Nintendo teaming up with tencent will perform better than the PS4 tho.

Oh I completely agree, it's just a sensitive market and population in no way reflects potential sales figures.

I actually think Nintendo has a good shot at this one and according to the many (dubious) articles that can be found regarding china's PS4 and XBO launch periods; switch seems to be outpacing them both atm.
