Anyone out there wanna breed me a Scorbunny egg? I need to replace mine since Sword and Shield's online trading system is shit and I accidentally traded my fully evolved Cinderace to some random fuckstick in Korea when I thought I was connected to my friend.

I have Sword and Shield, and the way I play is to get all three starters, then trade them back and forth between the two versions, leapfrogging the gyms as I go. (Up to gym 1 on game one, then trade over and do up to gym 2 on game 2, then back to game 1 and play up till Gym 3, etc). Well, since Pokemon Sword and Shield don't have Pokemon Bank/Home integration yet for some moronic reason, I have to rely on trading with friends online. So, I trade from my game to My friend's game, she holds all three of my starters, I go back to my other game, and take them back in order to make this happen!

Well, in this game since there are no friend codes or ability to just reach out to friends and custom-trade with them, they have a code system, which is 4 digits. Person A goes online, puts in 1234, person B puts in 1234, and the game connects you! Foxi and I both logged in, put in the same 4-digit code, and when I saw her pop up with a Wingull (The same one she traded to me last time), I agreed to trade my Cinderace (The fully evolved form of Scorbunny and the single pokemon I'd been using since the start of the game and MAYBE my favourite starter ever).

Only once the trade was completed and the other person disconnected did I realize something was wrong. I said to Foxi "You disconnected", and she said "No, we haven't connected yet"....

...
FUCK!

Turns out some korean jackass was using the exact same code at the exact same time, and since the other trainer's name is hidden when you first connect, I didn't think to double check...and now I've lost my Cinderace.

I am livid. Absolutely livid. you have no idea how pissed off I am right now and all I want is a Scorbunny egg so I can re-train them back to level 35 where I was before. I don't want a traded one, I just want one I can hatch from an egg so it will obey me (I'm not even at Gym 2 yet, so it's not like I can get my Pokemon to listen)

So, anyone wanna breed me a scorbunny or loan me a Cinderace and a ditto so I can breed my own?

What's your Nintendo Friend code, and trainer code? I'll do it.

I get a feeling like you think I expect you to behave like a blind fanboy. I don't, I expect you to spend your money how YOU want to.

But from an objective point of view, you are not allowed to compare Sonic '06 to Sw/Sh because while one might be missing some value, the other is just broken!

I made it clear I'm speaking my opinion, that's what disappointment is. You can be disappointed in anything for any reason regardless of it's objective quality and value. I.e., I don't like the Mario Galaxy series, but I still acknowledge the facts that make them quality games.

lol we're allowed to compare whatever we want. Two things don't need to be exactly the same rather than share similarities to draw comparisons, that's the whole point.

Already got one! But thanks!

Still happy to share my friend code if you want, though.

You can compare apples and oranges if you really want to. But you know, you are comparing apples and oranges.

Lol, destructoid gave 75 to shield, and 70 to Sword, how does that make sense lol

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

One reviewer for each version of the game. Destructoid only give out scores in 0.5 increments, so both reviewers pretty much agreed on the game's overall quality.

Slowly making my way through the game. I don't think it is as bad a some people are making it out to be, but I feel that it is definitely one of the weaker entries in the series so far. Just seems to be a surprising lack of depth to it.

Also Team Yell are starting to annoy me. Well, sorry not annoy, I mean bore. They just don't really do anything or feel threatening in the slightest. I get that with the British theme that they're meant to be a parody of football hooligans, but they just come across as silly.

I'm taking my sweet-assed time. 20 hours in, haven't even gotten to the second gym. However, I HAVE been capturing, breeding, and evolving as many 'mons as I can, since i'm loving the return to "gotta catch em all" Mentality. Like I said before, this is the first time since Gen V I've felt I needed to start from scratch.

I tried getting every Pokemon in Black and White, failed. I started X/Y and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and then I actually managed to completely fill the national dex, like 400 hours later. I carried all that over to Sun and Moon, then Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and all I'm missing is Volcanion, Zeroara, and Meltan/Melmetal. I've decided to house all my Pokemon in Ultra Moon, and now I'm starting from scratch again in Sword and Shield. And you know what? doing so has really made me happy. Sure, it's a lot of tediousness, but you get so many small rewards (Capturing, breeding, or evolving Pokemon) so frequently that I always enjoy playing it.

Pokemon has always been about that. Catching 'em all has always been the focus from the tagline to the game design. Graphics, story, combat depth, all of that has come second. Sure, it's not as deep as a Final Fantasy or Dark Souls in terms of story or mechanics, but Pokemon has always known what it wanted to be and I think that Sword and Shield might do this better than the series has done it for a while now. Dexit mixed with the lack of any ability to carry old Pokemon over through Pokemon Home/Bank has put me in a position where the only way forward is to start over at th ebeginning with a whole new dex.

And you know what? I haven't had this much fun playing pokemon since Gens 1 or 5, the two times everything felt super fresh and new. Gen 1 introduced us to the games and it was unlike anything I'd played again. Gen 5 started us over with 150 new Pokemon so it felt almost like a reboot. Now, Gen 8 - though technically comprised of over 300 returning pokemon and less than 100 new ones - feels fresh again. And this is coming from someone who just finished getting 100% on Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon a few months ago.

It's still early to rank them, but of the eight gens, this is definitely in my top half. In order from favourite to least favourite (and keep in mind Nostalgia plays a huge part):

1 - Generation V (Black, White, Black 2, White 2)
2 - Generation I (Red, Blue, Yellow, Green)

3 - Generation VIII (Sword/Shield)
4 - Generation VI (X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire)

5 - Generation III (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green)
6 - Generation II (Gold, Silver, Crystal)

7 - Generation IV (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver)
8 - Generation VII (Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon.)

And keep in mind this is just a personal list. The only generation I kinda disliked was VII, I didn't like the island trials replacing the gyms. and I kinda didn't play generations 2-4 until later. I basically played 1, dappled a bit in 2, came back with 4 but didn't take it seriously, and only really got into the series with 5 going forward. That's when I started getting both/all games and actually trying. I caught em all in gen 1, I felt overwhelmed with Gen 2, mostly skipped gen 3, played and beat gen 4 but never tried for completion.

I'm rambling. I'm just really happy with Sword and Shield. the gameplay and quality of life improvements mixed with the nostalgic delight of starting from scratch makes me happy and overrides the negatives for me by a wide margin. I'd never get away with giving Pokemon Sword and Shield my personal score of 9.6 on a review website, which is why I'm kinda glad I don't do reviews anymore. I don't believe in 'objective' reviews, and subjectively, I'm in Love.
