Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony aquires "Insomniac Games"

It's a natural purchase. I like it.

Even though Spider man was brilliant, It seems to me that their biggest hits were on PS3 gen. Can't wait to see what they have for the future in terms of new titles.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

Insomniac this gen released 3 big games (Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet & Clank and Spiderman) besides some VR and Mobile. I can hope/see a solid PS5 lineup with: Spiderman 2 / Spiderman VR standalone, New BIG Ratchet, Resistance remake, and maybe a new IP. That would be great

So, who's next?

I would say Blue Point and Housemarque are likely targets. Ready at Dawn expressed interest in going first party, but I think Oculus could be in a better position to acquire them. Oculus might also have tried to buy Insomniac, as the studio made a few games for them.

Its not just Microsoft out there swallowing up game studios.... Epic is doing it, Stadia is doing it... even Amazon did a few?
At some point Sony must be like... "the hell! if everyone takes everything, we ll get no 2nd party deals!"

Who did Stadia or Amazon buy?

Google
Owlchemy Labs (Job Simulator)
Slide (SuperPoke)
Niantic (Pokémon Go) – Spun off in 2015
In talks to acquire more game studios (link)

Amazon
Double Helix Games (Killer Instinct)
Reflexive Entertainment (Lucky's Escape)

Epic
Psyonix (Rocket League)
Cloudgine (Crackdown 3)
Chair Entertainment (Shadow Complex)
People Can Fly (Gears of War: Judgment, Bulletstorm) – Sold in 2015

However besides Microsoft, THQ Nordic (and to a lesser degree Bigben) has been the one on a crazy buying spree these past few years.

THQ Nordic
Black Forest Games (Destroy All Humans!)
Bugbear Entertainment (FlatOut)
Dambuster Studios (Dead Island 2)
Deep Silver (publisher of Saints Row, Dead Island, etc.)
Experiment 101 (Biomutant)
Grimlore Games (SpellForce 3)
Gunfire Games (Darksiders 3)
Milestone (MotoGP, MXGP, Ride, Gravel)
Pieces Interactive (Magicka 2)
Piranha Bytes (Gothic, Risen, ELEX)
Rainbow Studios (MX vs. ATV)
Volition (Saints Row)
Warhorse Studios (Kingdom Come: Deliverance)
Together with a huge bunch of IP including Alone in the Dark, Carmageddon, Kingdoms of Amalur, and TimeSplitters (link)

Bigben Interactive
Cyanide (Styx, Call of Cthulhu, Werewolf)
Kylotonn (WRC 8, V-Rally 4)
Spiders (The Technomancer, Greedfall)

Ninja Theory Say hi

Insomniac have not only been around longer, but we have known about their insistence on wanting to be independant well (which has been a very long time) before NT ever expressed theirs.

Insomniac has also been getting a lot of games made (not for Sony) so it seemed like they were in an even greater position to push for independece than ever before.

NT were not in the same position.

that's why it's more reasonable for Sony to acquire them now,  before they getting to big, before they getting more expensive or acquire by more bigger company. Let say the situation on gaming Industry is uncertain as well.

They were hella prolific with PS exclusives last gen, and most of those games were really well received, with the only exception being Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, which TBH, I didn't even know existed until a few minutes ago. It's a spin-off of some kind? Ja? Anyway, 3 Resistance games, 3 mainline Ratchet & Clank, 2 spin-off Ratchet & Clank, one of which was also ported to the Vita, and Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty, which was kind of like DCL for Tools Of Destruction. That's how I thought of it because it wasn't a "full" game, and continued directly after Tools Of Destruction. Throw in the multi-plat Fuse too. That's craaazy. In terms of the sheer number of titles, I highly doubt we'll ever see that level of output from them again.

But I want for Sony to acquire From Software, Guerrilla Games, Housemarque and Tarsier Studios because Little Nightmares is simply a master piece.

Why isn't Sony acquiring the studios I want it to acquire?

EDIT: Forgot to mention that Insomniac is nice too, I loved the Ratchet and Clank games.

Well I've got good news about one of those at least:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guerrilla_Games

...

It's amazing Insomniac Games were 2nd/3rd party developers for many years(probably wanted to be 3rd party) until they got acquired by Sony. As far as i know they were looking for funds to make their own original IPs other than Sony.

I sure hope Sony give them freedom creative what Insomniac Games want to make games.

Regardless to say it's really crazy year cause Microsoft, THQNordic and Sony are buying game studios everywhere to stay video games healthy from those nightmare companies like Google and Amazon.

That's a very good pickup by Sony. Smart move.

After Quantic Dream and Supermassive went multiplatform, they knew they couldn't take chances with Insomniac,.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.
