Ok I must reveal something to you all. I am a psychopath or a sociopath, I'm not sure about the difference. Anyway I'm a crazed deranged maniac. You are all in danger with me around. I lust for blood.

And I am hereby threatening COKTOE with death. Yes ladies and gents, you heard me well. COKTOE you will give me your name and address and I am going to come over and murder you! You will also wait for me and be alone (no ganging up on me with friends or whatever) and you will let me choke you to death without resisting or trying to defend yourself. Also depending on where you live, you will send me a plane ticket to get to you cause I may be a bloodthirsty killer, it does not mean I am willing to spend money in traveling. Also it's not like you'll need the money anymore if I kill you, right?

Then to add more injury to an already lethal dose of injury, I am also going to murder COKTOE's neighbors, assuming he has neighbors cause some people live in isolated farms and the closest neighbors are miles away and I'm way too lazy to walk miles to satisfy my lust for blood. The point is I'm clearly threatening COKTOE's neighbors too.

My murderous intent towards COKTOE is all the more egregious considering COKTOE has only been nice to me in his message and I'm sure you are all in shock as you read these lines.

Now what can we do to save COKTOE as well as anyone else on this forum. I'm thinking... Hmm... Oh oh oh, I have an idea. How about you mods PERMA-BAN me. If I am perma-banned, I cannot demand that COKTOE give me his info which means I cannot know where he lives which means I cannot kill him. So COKTOE will live and be able to thrive in a safe world and most importantly he will not lose his faith in mankind.

So if you mods perma-ban me, not only you save COKTOE but you make this forum a safer place by keeping demented murderous maniacs like me off the forum and as a bonus you become heroes which everyone will glorify, minstrels will sing songs bearing your names and everybody will love you.

And if all those reasons are not good enough for you well I'm pretty sure that threatening a member of the forum automatically entails a perma-ban. So you have no choice but to perma-ban me. End of story.

Um, should someone call 911 and save poor COKTOE?

From the sounds of things as long as he hides under a blanket he will be too much trouble to kill and therefore safe.

Edit - now that I think about it, this could be a win-win for coktoe, if he doesn't like his neighbors he can just hide under a blanket and not warn his neighbors ...

It's not just here, a lot of gaming forums I visit are on the decline. I'm on IGN as well and the Nintendo discussion section there is absolutely glacial compared to, say, 4-5 years ago.

Resetera on the other hand, is still very active, and their moderation is extremely strict. Not sure what their secret is, how they manage to thrive under such conditions.

Hardware is about to get a LOT more interesting. At least on the Switch side with the revision boosting sales and the Switch Lite right around the corner. Even from what I am seeing Gears 5 is going to help Xbox One sales a decent amount during its launch week.

Yea obviously, i was just pointing out why it's more empty than usual during the summer since there is like really dry new info on games and the actual games coming out during that period of time aren't the most exciting usually. And with the hardware being boring during that same period the only thing i personally was interested in was the software sales. But yes, it is about to get better.

Even so you are still right. This “interesting” bit will only last for a week or two, until everything dies down again or a new standard has been set. Then it’s same old same old again.

There’s only so much times you can say;

”Congrats Switch!” or “Wow PS4 is doing so well for it’s age!”

The sales threads basically write themselves. The software threads didn’t really have this problem as something new would be released regularly and results were much less predictable. Which meant much more discussion beforehand, and more afterwards to talk about surprising results, in higher frequency.

Why should people still visit this site when it's main product (sales charts) are no longer provided?

Either VGC will have to drastically reinvent itself, or it will die a slow death, which would be a shame. But if I'm correct the owner doesn't really care anymore, so that's not so good.

What I've been noticing these past few years is that Nintendo-related content has been taking up more and more space on VGC. I remember the first time I became aware of it was back in 2016 where every Nintendo fan and his mom were making duplicate threads about Switch and BotW rumors.

While that in itself is perfectly fine and somewhat natural considering how awesome the Switch and its games are doing, I think that it limits the potential and appeal of the site. People dropping by searching for PC/PS/XB-related content won't necessarily stick around for long.

You could say that a solution would be for people to start making more varied threads but I simply don't think that VGC has the number of PC/PS/XB-leaning users required to create and nurture such threads. It had 3-4 years ago but not anymore.

As of this writing, only 2 out of 14 "Hot topics" (VGC's bread and butter) are related to PC/PS/XB. The rest are made up of 6 Nintendo-related threads, 3 NSFW, 1 political, 1 movie and 1 general thread.

This forum can offer more than just sales charts though.
Its as good a place as any for topics related to gameing, news, reviews ect.

We need to be super carefull with bans though, like retention of users is more important now than ever.
Once too few users are makeing use of it, it ll snowball, and vise versa.

Im with you though, I'd rather see VGCs try to reinvent itself, than slowly fade away.

Does VGCs have a offical youtube channel? where reviews, or bits of news could be released as well?
And it could all have links, leading back to these forums?
Maybe a Twitter? I wouldnt want to try running it, but if someone is up for it, it could be a way to garner new attention, and users.

I've been on NeoGaf for the last little bit. I suppose my issue with this site is that it's not as clean and easy to navigate in my opinion. I rarely come by anymore because of it.

Yesterday saw NPD rankings get released and Nintendo announced a new sales milestone for Switch.

Topics that used to get hundreds of replies go completely unnoticed now, this site is close to dead.

People leaving led to other people leaving due to lower activity levels here. It snowballed, simple as that.

An occasional look at ResetEra makes me realize that the thread at the bottom of their first page of hot topics was last posted in 5-10 minutes ago, but on VGC it's regularly a timestamp of 10 hours or more ago.

There are fewer sales numbers to go around nowadays, but what's probably more important is that VGC hasn't had good sales discussions in a long time, so there's next to nothing that makes this site special anymore. Hardly any reasons to come here, hardly any reasons to stay. Other forums are able to provide much the same and so much more on top of it.

I'd say VGC is past the point of no return by now. The state of the site seems to be irrevertible.

No matter the state of VGC you allways will be a pansy to me

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

There's just not many interesting discussions going on.

Part of it may be because there's no real console war anymore.
