Forums - Gaming Discussion - What do you think of RDR2 so far? (for those who are playing it)

I did't get to go to a gun smith last night as the game got extremely linear for a while. So now I'm in chapter 5. At least due to the circumstances arriving in chapter 5 I gave up looting for a while which makes the game flow a bit better. I did not manage to escape the confines of chapter 5, walls and shot on sight keep you on the track. Waiting for dark is no option as the time never advances past 9:02 am. I wanted to explore there, not allowed!

Oh well, glad to be back in control although still no Blackwater access, and another couple hundred people killed.

I've more or less stopped looting bodies, there's no need. I have over 4000$ and nothing much to spend them on, got all weapons unlocked and fully upgraded.

My fast travel map seems to have disappeared, which is annoying, I'm on chapter 6 and all missions are really far apart and most require a long (and slow) ride to get to objectives as well. Seems like a needless hassle when mission icons are half a map apart.

I have to say that it's ludicrous that after being betrayed/ambushed 4 times almost in a row when you complain about the results some of the gang just antagonize you and say you only complain instead of acting and supporting the band, even though almost all the money donated was yours and all the collective money (that you don't even see how much) had your participation in missions. Some points are very ill made.

Indeed, 95% of camp funds are contributed by Arthur as well as keeping food supplies well stocked by donating all food to the butcher in camp. Yet still they complain I'm never there and not pulling my weight. I've never seen anyone else do chores around camp. Bunch of lazy people just sitting around waiting for you to help them with some crazy idea.

Yeah, I guess there is no point. Dutch keeps going on about some big score while I also already have over $4000 and nothing to buy. Camp funds are over $1500 as well with nothing left to upgrade and everything well stocked. Although currently there is no more camp.

Here's a typical story mission in 3 minutes with the crappy game play. It's end chapter 4 or begin chapter 5, doesn't spoil much anyway.

Without looting it should flow better and you don't have to re-equip the gun all the time. It's most annoying when you press R3 expecting eagle eye and instead Arthur turns 180 because your gun is holstered again.

Currently Arthur seems intent on giving his money away and again I have no say in how much or whether I want to. No player agency at all :/ Trundle on, I will unlock Blackwater and the appendix beyond.

It irritates me how little everyone contributes. I've basically paid for all the upgrades in the camp myself, and I've donated at least 2000-2500$ to do this, in the same time frame, the collective gang have donated a generous and wholesome 200$ or so. They can't be doing much of anything.

There are several points where Dutch asks Arthur if he would rather leave the gang and go it alone. And I'm like YES YES say YES you dumb fuck. But no, Arthur always crawls back under Dutch's wing. He's a coward not willing to do the obvious. Arthur must have some serious crush on Dutch to make the story even remotely make sense!

Arthur is also a huge hypocrite. Giving Dutch heck for killing an 'innocent' that might betray them while they're running for their lives, then later he happily wipes out a settlement for yet another new spot for camp. Of course R* makes sure to paint the occupants as evil in some way, got to keep it black and white. It's like two very different teams were in charge of world building and main story design.

I'm not sure what the point was of upgrading the camp. I've never used any supplies from camp, nor the fast travel or stables. I tend to avoid camp as the game slows you down to walking through molasses in camp. I guess they complain even more if you don't keep the camp stocked.

Don't forget that their bad ideas almost always fail and get near killing you in the process, with you having to save everyone =p

And about the big score, remember that if you have 4k in the bank then the group received 4k from your cut, plus half of everyone else cuts (which with all the missions that have a lot of money having 3 or 4 members, these funds are somewhere between 10-15k). There is one conversation in the game that someone says about winning 1k and retiring for life. So I'm pretty sure you have money even for 20 people to move far to the west and restart there.

But well, sometimes writers forget to cover the blind spots.

And funny every time you go to camp they are all merry over there... you are basically the slave father of a very big leechery family.

Dutch basically created him, so they have a father/son relationship so Arthur follows him to the end even after much abuse.

I haven't killed an innocent once, but yes the lecture on Dutch killing to get back the gold and avoid another betrayal is ridiculous, and after you being betrayed so many times you should appreciate that him for once is concerned with it.

I get the relationship with Dutch, yet Arthur can think for himself in 'white' missions, while in 'yellow' missions he's all yes sir, whatever you say sir. He does complain yet never goes through with it.

I'm sure you killed plenty innocents! Never fired a shot at a guard or law man? Did you let all those story missions fail and press skip to avoid killing innocents that simply try to uphold the law? The game is very inconsistent about what is murder or honorable. Defending yourself against one shooter isn't the same as another. Looting a victim sometimes gives you information like a letter, yet most of the time it's dishonorable to check victims.

That tip about equipping the weapons you want at the gun smith, it doesn't work. I had them set correctly forever (just checked) and it is simply the luck of the draw what I end up with in missions. Usually just 2 random revolvers. How did QA miss this.

I'm not at a point where more of the map i basically blocked off, can't pay off that 'bounty'. So now there are annoying patrols around. I tried to lead Pinkertons to camp to see what happens, it doesn't work. Fighting them simply fires up the R* 'spawn more' engine to full tilt. Avoid, pointless. Anyway the white missions are still fun, dreading the next yellow one.
