Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So can we finally put this to rest?

I originally thought it was going to be a very roubst and somewhat retouched port, but the days passed and it became clear it was genuine, new entry. Today's Direct just made this a formality.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

@AlfredoTurkey

I look forward to seeing how you plan to argue against this.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Intelligent people agreed ever since the announcement of SSB Ultimate. If you want agreement from everyone, then you simply expect too much.

I do not expect it, but I will shout it from the rooftops for my own amusement.

We don't know the full name yet, but I think it might be kind of a mixture between Classic/Adventure/Story modes

And to answer the OP, there was not much to question in it's authenticity as a brand new Smash game. It was aanounced as Smash 5, then it is.

Add a proper adventure mode to Smash Ultimate, alongside the obscene amount of content in terms of characters, stages, musical tracks, modes, and mechanics, and this could be a game for the ages :)

It would be the ultimate smash game :p

Well its officially Smash 6 according to nintendo.

Just because it changes the menus, a few of the character designs, and adds on more content does not mean that it is not using the Smash 4 engine and assets. I guess it depends on how you define the labels. They obviously didn’t rebuild everything from scratch because why would they? But they also have added so many new elements it feels like nothing has been completely untouched. I would say this makes it Smash 4.6-4.9 lol. But does it really matter? Smash on Switch is a must buy and this will be far better than the Smash titles before it. ;) If it makes you feel better to think this was a ground up effort and is Smash 10 or 5 or 8 then do it and go buy it. I know everyone else is going to.

I'd say at least 90% of sequels use the same engine with modifications and a good deal of the same assets... so I'm not sure how that is relevant.

By that logic...

Fallout 4 is just another port of Skyrim.

Fable 3 is a port of Fable 2.

Bloodborne and Dark Souls 1,2, and 3 are just ports of Demon Souls.

Yeah, I think we are done here.  =P
