In my head this is how I'm imagining this.....

Sony: See's trailer.."ok enough is enough, let's finally add cross play"

...everyone decides to continue to buy PS4 moreso over their competitors now that they approve cross play....

MS & Nintendo: "well that was stupid of us"

(This is an exaggeration so no need to take it literally if you do)
-----

MS will make money on Minecraft regardless of which system sells the most copies so they most likely don't care who sells more.

This sounds more like a jab at Sony than them wanting your money.

The real question here is if a media backlash like this have a lasting effect on Sony. Will it affect them enough to place them on third position of the market, or will this be forgotten in a few years from now? My guess is that Nintendo and Microsoft, despite being on opposite sides, will make crossplay a huge thing with more multiplatform games and force animosity on Sony. With how resentful people on the internet can be, they won't make Sony forget this even until the next-gen reveal. Even if this is really petty from Sony, gotta give it to them for taking this stand and not folding like a cheap suit.

People tend to forgot what they want to forget. Like how when PS wanted cross-play and MS didn’t join. Now everyone thinks Sony is evil. If we don’t get cross-play does it really change anything? Can you not still log on and play the game with other people? When MS didn’t agree to cross-play I just kept playing games on my PS3. I didn’t take to the internet to cry about it.

There's literally no valid way to defend Sony in this instance.  It's just interesting to see the turn around from both companies this generation. Last generation you had cross play with titles such as Final Fantasy XI across PC,PS2 and Xbox 360, was pretty awesome. This generation in order to defend Sony people have to bring up ''Well well this one time Sony asked this and Microsoft said no'', which somehow justifies Sony's current arrogance.  People back last gen had the right to criticize and even give Microsoft the same level of hate that they're giving Sony now, but to use that old excuse as a crutch to prop up Sony and damage control for them is pretty folly to me too.

Sony has messed up in their decision to cross-platform play this generation, that may change and it may not, it's still a screw up, so the other two companies are just going to capitalize on it and band together for certain titles, smart business move overall and hopefully it continues. Then by the NEXT generation in a few years, hopefully all three companies will be doing cross play together and all three get over their own individual arrogance

YEah, that kind of excuse is actually one of the most irksome, because it implies that 1. MS and Sony are equals.

2. Somehow everyone is equal and makes 50/50 mistakes.

Except we aren't, MS & Sony aren't equals either and have made different mistakes over different periods of time.

Does anyone believe Microsoft and Nintendo have the interest of gamers in mind? This is faker than my sexuality. Let's see what happens when the tables turn next generation. The end result is that, yes, it is good for gamers, but this is obviously just an atempt to destroy Sony's image.

And? Sony dropped the ball here. They do what businesses do, compete. And in the end, we should welcome this. Cause more competition is always better for us as gamers. You can bet that Sony will change its attitude towards crossplay soon enough.

Yup Competition is good but don't forget is not about cross play it's about Business

You know what, Sony not allowing cross-play is kind of hindering sales for them, I would have bought Minecraft for PS4 had it allowed cross-play, but I got the XB1 version because it didn't. I'm not even someone who plays online, but I didn't really want a gimped version of the game.

Whoa, wait a moment, Dragons Dogma online?

When did the Western release happen?.

Also, I just checked that list, most of those games have mixed reviews on Steam, are free to play and a few of them are dead or tied to Japan only.

Also, if it's about "business", what business do they have to do with PC?.

However, I think most people have to realize that it's not really the consumer outrage that they're going to be basing their decisions on, it's stock values and shareholder opinions, so if this has no negative effect on Sony's stock value I don't see them moving an inch.

Ask Nintendo and Microsoft , because they are  the one who begging PS players to play on their platform.

MS/Nintendo need to market the shit out of cross-play on every game they can. I want it to be a default feature, it just makes sense.

Yes I agree!
