Why in the world would they release a Star Wars movie in May when they have set the expectation that Fall is the season for it?  Nobody is expecting a Star Wars in May.  Nobody knows this movie just released.  People have only generally heard about this movie even exists.  Yes it will flop.

They were attempting to reclaim May. Historically speaking, May was when Star Wars movies released. All 3 original trilogy and all 3 prequel trilogy movies released in May. Clearly it has failed though, too many other big franchises have risen up for Star Wars to have May on lock like it used to. While I do expect we're going to start seeing more than 1 Star Wars movie a year soon (there are too many in development for them to do just 1 a year), I assume they're going to look for other months besides May to release the 1st movie of the year (with the 2nd always landing in December).

Oh ok.  Makes sense but it take a while to produce a trend.  The worst thing to do when trying to start a particular trend is to change the trend mid-trend. lol. with so much money involved and so many people to "prove" something to, I doubt there is anyone brave enough not to switch things up on a whim. The problem isn't with May, but that they set a standard the last 3 years for Star Wars in the fall, and in the Spring you build up hype for Star Wars in the fall.  Seems like a curve ball when they Star Wars in the spring during the time that we are building hype for Star Wars in the fall. lol.

Plus there was a lot of Star Wars hype going into May 4th for at least a week prior.  Had they released it on May 4th, then that would have given them the hype train they needed.  Someone really dropped the ball on this release.

Not going to support this franchise again till drastic changes are made, this is a disgusting combination of a moneygrab and forced political correctness.

The yearly thing is just a poor excuse, though.  Marvel has been pumping 2-3 movies a year for the past 5 years or so, yet every sequel performs better than the last.  The difference?  Marvel tries to stay out of the political crap.  Even if they dabble in it a little, its very general things that most can agree on and, more importantly, they don't shit all over the fans who actually got them where they are when they don't agree.  They also don't try to shit on the characters, either, which is nice.

What I see happening with SW is the exact same thing that happened with the Ghostbusters remake.  The only difference is that instead of pushing the political agenda first, and making a poor film, Lucafilm/Kennedy made TFA first to rope us in.  Wasn't the greatest film, but it was decent and got us looking forward to more, where some of the issues in TFA could be addressed.  Then, after they had a hold of the fans and a pile of cash, they started pushing out their agenda into the lore (the Force is female) and films (TLJ and, now, Solo), either through the script or social media.  As expected, many fans are not accepting it.

Well, technically they are saying that Lando is a pansexual.  But, I still agree with you.

Really? Marvel stays out of politics? Did you not watch Black Panther? Which by the way over-performed by Disney expectations. Also Marvel movies are vastly different to one another. Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Spider-Man Homecoming and such all have different feel to them so even though technically they are superhero films, they can be taken as individual movies as well. Not so with Star Wars, which is why there is a fatigue with those movies already.

You have such an anti-SJW boner that you will believe people are pushing propaganda at you even though they're just making a movie. Heck Solo has a straight white male lead so this should be right up your alley man.

First of all, Disney's obsession with Political Correctness and catering to the snowflakes SJWs isn't a niche piece of information. Their vehement defense of MaRey Sue should be proof enough by itself.

And there are ways to cuck up a movie without changing the gender or race of a person.

Oh, stop with the SJW crap. How bout you and Lucasfilm stop trying to check of some diversity checklist that only people on the extreme left care about, and worry about the film's being good. Okay? Thanks.

Though, in fairness, Carl was trying to pick at you.

Well, good to know that mods don't have to follow forum rules. I'll just keep that in mind.

If the 4-day weekend number ends up at $114 million then there is no way that can be spun into good news. The 3-day estimate is at $92.5 million which is lower than Justice League. Like i said somewhere else yesterday it's a movie no one wanted, coming off a movie many people disliked, obviously it's going to struggle

Ugh, "snowflake", "cuck" .... people who hang on these terms are so lame.

I hope Star Wars just goes away at this rate. Enjoy Marvel movies for the next 20 years, especially Black Panther.

Star Wars movies have always leaned to the left of the political spectrum and Lucas is a hyper-liberal to boot, jeezus, kids these days know nothing about the Vietnam War or even Bush-era policy that Star Wars mocked. The whole theme of Star Wars is rebels (which is basically the 60s counter-culture/protest/hippie movement) rising up against a fascist government (the Empire), Lucas has said so many times.

Box Office: 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Bombs In China With $3M Friday

As expected, Solo: A Star Wars Story was DOA in China, earning just $3.3 million on its first day of release. That's way below the $9.7m opening day of The Last Jedi, the $10.7m opening day for Rogue One and obviously below the $33m opening day for The Force Awakens.

The pansexual thing isn't actually in the movie, so anyone not seeing it for that reason is just being a RW snowflake: sorry but "anti-PC" usually just means "pro-a$$hole."

Call me crazy, but Infinity War, DeadPool 2, and now Solo is an overwhelming stacking of back-to-back-to-back blockbusters: it just seems like Disney would have been better-served with waiting on the release.

I couldn't care less if Lando is a pansexual, asexual or freaking robo-sexual.. but to me a move like that raises some red flags about the quality of the actual film. Unless his being a pansexual is a major plot point in the movie which I doubt, I don't see the purpose of making an odd announcement like that other than simply using it as a cheap way to generate hype and attention to the movie, which also tells me the movie's quality (or lack thereof) isn't good enough to generate it's own hype. Disney just needs to stop with the identity politics and phony "inclusiveness" and just focus on making a great movie with strong characters and good world building. I mean, we have a movie that stars a bunch of aliens and robots; is an emphasis on "diversity" really needed? If anything, focus on diversity of character personalities, which is what REALLY matters, and what the OT did so much better doing than TLJ, which is riddled with a lot of cliche tropes and characters with wooden performances.

We didn't really get that in Last Jedi, not to mention the story was extremely weak, nonsensical, and a disgrace to the old story and lore of Star Wars. That movie pretty much killed any hype for the series and I think the ripple effect is starting to show itself in Solo.
