Forums - Sony Discussion - Ps5 still 3 years away

Weird, from the off, I read 2021 as the end of the PS4 production. In no way the direct correlation to next gens start time in any way.

For release, I expect Sony to keep their cards close to their chest anyway. With an E3 reveal for a Oct/nov release, or playstation experience for March. I'm happy whenever it launches, but I think late 2019 early 2020 makes sense. Too many projects have been moved from PS4 to PS5 for it to be later.

I'm in no rush to upgrade here. My PS4 still feels new to me, plus I don't care all that much about even better graphics.

Which projects exactly?

I'm just wondering if we will ever get back to a time when the big three launch their main devices in the same year again? When will the XTwo launch or Switch 2?

What time was that?...Sony, Nintendo and MS have never launched their main systems in the same year...all 3 of them, I mean.

PS2 - 2000

Xbox/GameCube - 2001

X360 - 2005

PS3/Wii - 2006

Wii U - 2012

PS4/XB1 - 2013

It´s always two of them in the same year, but all 3 has never happened.

Fall 2020 is my bet.

You could read it as "2018 is year 1 before PS5 is launched, 2019 is year 2 and 2020 is year 3"

You might not be in a rush. Folks, consider this: You dont have to buy the day the thing launches.

There are still poeple who buy PS4s. It seems they were in no rush either.

True, I think for some people they see the PS4 as completely acceptable and don't see major advantage a PS5 would offer right now.  Each generation seems to get a bit longer for PlayStation to achieve the leaps in tech we've come to expect.

Yea, this is what I don't get with the comments like that.  In 2019, there are going to be people who have had their PS5's for 5 1/2-6 years.  They are going to be ready to move on to something bigger and better, if they aren't already ready.  Especially if they felt no need to upgrade to the Pro.  And if Sony waits til 2020, it'll be 6 1/2-7 years, which is why I think so many actually thinking 2021 is a legitimate time to launch are crazy.  Sony is not waiting 8 years to put out a successor.

They already said the Pro was meant to be a stopgap to sway people who want better HW moving on to PC.  I doubt they think the Pro is going to hold those people off for an extra 4 years after its launch.  Especially, like I mentioned above, when there are many who didn't feel the need to go with that stopgap.  They know they need to upgrade to keep those early adopters, otherwise they may lose them to PC.  Or possibly a powerful XB2.  Speaking of the latter, you can guaran-damn-tee MS isn't waiting this gen out as long as possible.  They're probably already wanting to jump ship, to try again next gen to get gamers back.  They aren't waiting til 2021, either.

In the end, if you aren't ready to upgrade, don't.  But, the rest of us who are will.

I'd probably prefer a 2021 release just so it can have that extra bit of tech inside it. I wouldn't mind if it did release it 2020 though.

So why not prefer a 2022 release just so it can have that extra bit of tech inside it compared to a 2021 launch? Or prefer a 2023 release just so it can have that extra bit of tech inside it compared to a 2022 launch?
