Forums - Nintendo Discussion - John Woo making a Metroid movie?!?!

http://zentendo.com/news.php?newsId=1025

Director of such films like Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Windtalkers, and Mission: Impossible 2, John Woo is world renowned for his deliverance of top notch action and slow motion cut scenes.

Supposedly, John Woo is to announce a new Metroid film at Comic Con this year. One image has been popping up over the Internet featuring Samus' helmet and the date, May 2, 2009. John Woo bought the rights to make a Metroid film back in 2004, but no other announcements have been made since.

Do you think this is a true story? Or just another hoax? It's a little too late for April Fool's Day, but then again this is just too good to be true. What do you think? (Sorry for the inclusion of the ad)

Wow alot of metroid threads lately. (: Oh they announced a movie back in 2003 , but I doubt anybody is making any. I wish it would happen , but it won't.

I think a Metroid movie would be awesome... It's one of the few games, that is perfectly suited to a Movie release.

Guitar Hero 3/ Smash Hits

yeah, a Metroid movie would rock and I would see it on the first day, Hope they do announced the movie this July

If this is true, though, then who would you want to see as Samus? You think it would be important enough of a role, seeing as how Samus almost always has a helmet on? Or do you think that is one of the many traditions that would be broken once Samus is on the big screen?

“If any creator has not played Mario, then they’re probably not a good creator. That’s something I can say with 100 percent confidence. Mario is, for game creators, the development bible.

Jessica Biel should play the role. She was a bball player on 7th Heaven and she's really fit. Any other suggestions?

hopefully - i'm sure it would get a lot of $$ at the box office

I don't believe it for a second, just a made up screenshot. Those are common for everything, and oftentimes very well done. I remember seeing years and years ago one for Dragon Ball Z with a very realistic piccolo (fantastic make up and costume), but it was a complete hoax, just a very well done one.

Honestly I don't think Metroid would make a great movie, especiially with John Woo as directo. The lonely isolation that makes the metroid series great wouldn't translate well into a movie, and it would likely be very westernized focusing more on Samus as part of the military ala the beginning and end of Metroid Prime 3. Most likely turning into a rip off of "Aliens" (ironic seeing as how the original was based off of Aliens), with a ton of slow motion scenes of soldiers being killed by space pirates and Samus doing acrobatics with overly dramatic music and shots of doves flying by and roses drenched in alien blood. That's not what I want to see happen to the metroid series.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

god i hope not. i hate john woo movies, i think he's a horrible director. besides, as much as i love metroid i don't think it would make a good movie. 2 hours of samus exploring a planet/shooting this wouldn't be that great considering to be true to the games she'd have to be alone and therefore no dialogue.
