Source?

Sell-through for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in March of last year, has reached 6 million units for the Nintendo Switch version alone, and 7.5 million units total when you include the Wii U version, released at the same time.

Cool, thanks. I somehow missed this tidbit.

It’s crazy to think of how many 10M-sellers the Switch will have. Odyssey is already there, MK8D will hit the mark this fiscal year and BOTW will hit the mark next fiscal year. On top of that, Pokemon will hit the mark (probably twice) as well as Animal Crossing, 2D MARIO, Super Smash Bros. and so many more. I could see the console’s top 10 best-sellers all above 10M if Nintendo really supports the console for 6+ years.

Remember that is SOLD (not ship) and end of 2017. WiiU version probably is close to 1.7mil or 1.8mil ship+digital.

The way Switch software is going, I would not be at all surprised if Smash Bros becomes the highest selling entry in the series.

If Smash Switch is not the best selling game in the series then Nintendo did something terribly wrong. Maybe they decided to have the starting roster to only be 10 characters and the rest is paid DLC. Every generation Smash only does better in sales.  The only hiccup was Smash 4. However, Smash would have to have a 100+% attachment rate to beat Brawl.  Combining 3DS + Wii U sales makes the numbers above Brawl but there is no doubt a lot of cross-buying was involved. Smash 4 only did worse than Brawl due to hardware issues, not software issues.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

That shouldn’t be hard at all. In terms of shipments:

SSB (N64) - 5.55M

Melee (GC) - 7.41M

Brawl (Wii) - 13.27M

4 (3DS) - 9.24M

4 (WiiU) - 5.34M

If it releases in September like some people guessed, it’ll easily outsell the N64 and GC entries before the end of 2018. By the end of the next fiscal year (March 2020), it could outdo Brawl and even 4’s combined total (14.58M) with the way the Switch is moving software. If the game is well-received, the sky is the limit.

Yeah, it would be strange if Smash Bros for Switch isnt LT 15m+.
