Forums - Gaming Discussion - Skyrim feels so dated now.

Some graphic mods make it looks like a current gen game. If you are playing vanilla Skyrim, you are playing it wrong. The game was developed with modding in mind.

I never played it before until I got the Switch remastered version. I think it's a superbly crafted open world game. I can see parts of Breath of the wild that are obviously Skyrim inspired

I still like Skyrim for its atmosphere (especially the music), but the reason I enjoy it also has to do with the mods I use. Which for example lets me modify my character to look like Lightning from FFXIII-2, etc.
This is one of few games I prefer to play on PC because its the type of game I think goes very well with mods, for me at least.

Same. I always loved booting up the game and eharing it's start screen theme, as well as listening to the tranquil OST that plays on your travels throughout Skyrim.

Still one of my favorite soundtracks years later.

Also, since we've just seen Morrowing go to X1 in the form of BC, has anyone here ever taken a look at a modded Morrowind?.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

What makes Skyrim still so big is all the mods and user generated content made for it, giving it fresh visuals and tons of hours to play.

I just liked playing with the mods on Xbox One. Couldn't really get into it on the Switch. Hopefully I gave it a second chance some day.

Stealth was always broken, never play an assassin.

Actually after Breath of the Wild I find myself trying to climb everything in other games before realizing that's not something you can actually do in anything else.

Well if you put it that way then yes compared to BOTW it falls short (haven't played Horizon)
But Skyrim has it's own personality that makes it stands its own against any game, like what you decide affects the whole experience, I have the switch game and I am enjoying myself so far

The enemies in Skyrim are all randomly generated to be at your level no matter what. So you can't wander into a high level enemy with the exception of the hilarious giants. The game just sort of holds your hand the entire game only presenting you with the sort of challenge you can handle at the moment.

Never understood that point.

Autoleveling makes sure that you can go ANYWHERE you want at ANY TIME. True open world gaming.

When enemies have set levels you are much more limited at what you can do. Previous areas will be far too easy and therefore boring. Future areas will be far too hard to survive for more than a few encounters. Only areas designed specifically for your level will be enjoyable and give you enough experience to get a level up. That's a much more linear experience.

If you want challenge, Skyrim has plenty of difficulty options.

Please don't do this to me. I'm about to receive my new 4K HDR TV in the mail and was hoping to get back into Skyrim SE on the PS4. Yes, Skyrim SE was one of the major reasons why I'm transitioning to 4K HDR.

Do you have the opportunity to instead get the PC version? You can still use your 4K TV along with the ability to make the game look pretty. Unfortunately, Skyrim on console isn't the definitive experience.

But if it's your first time playing Skyrim, you should still have an amazing time. It's a great game, just better with mods. And modding has never been something I've been interested in, but yet with Skyrim it is very easy. Most of the mods I use are just visual enhancements. Better textures, higher resolution, better lighting, better water, more trees, more foliage, etcetera. Vanilla Skyrim doesn't even compare.

SE version is still nice (at least at the time it was), but I cannot justify a gaming PC at this point.  I did Skyrim on the PS3 for maybe 100 hours while logging 300 with Oblivion.  I was willing to start over on the current gen of consoles with the SE version.  Cosmetic mods I have looked into.
