The enemies in Skyrim are all randomly generated to be at your level no matter what. So you can't wander into a high level enemy with the exception of the hilarious giants. The game just sort of holds your hand the entire game only presenting you with the sort of challenge you can handle at the moment.

Never understood that point.

Autoleveling makes sure that you can go ANYWHERE you want at ANY TIME. True open world gaming.

When enemies have set levels you are much more limited at what you can do. Previous areas will be far too easy and therefore boring. Future areas will be far too hard to survive for more than a few encounters. Only areas designed specifically for your level will be enjoyable and give you enough experience to get a level up. That's a much more linear experience.

If you want challenge, Skyrim has plenty of difficulty options.
