Didn't santa Monica blow 50m on a new ip that failed and had to be canned? Sony are probably the ones that encouraged them to make another god of war and in all liklihood greenlit a more modern gameplay approach after seeing the success of uncharted and the last of us. 

Actually it was the complete opposite. Sony were the ones who didn't want a new God of War game at all, it took Santa Monica Studio a lot of convincing for Sony to finally let them do it.  We should all just be glad Sony actually finally listented to them since we get an amazing game out of it.

Sony marketing is smart here. Get the reviews out early and when the ads start running next week all people gonna see is a bunch of 10/10’s on their tele followed by the GOW branding at the end.

While I generally don't care about MC/OC, and I am not really interested in God of War (though liked 3, for all it was), this was a surprisingly high score, given that I thought it would fare on high 8s instead. Have a friend who's a huge GoW fan, his palms are probably getting sweaty in anticipation now.

I am not gonna go and preorder it or anything, probably not even gonna get it this year, but it went from a game I cared nothing of to something to look at down the line. Interesting.
