Forums - Sales Discussion - Amazon U.S. April bestsellers and general Amazon-based discussion

For the first time, since the announcement that the remaster was coming out, the Dark Souls version of PS4 has surpassed the Switch version in the top 100 of amazon. Sure, after today's announcement is something more normal. Probably many people have canceled the Switch version and replaced it with the PS4 version. Then I do not want to see Bandai Namco crying if the game has poor sales in Switch.

Yeah, this was a predictable occurrence.  As was the Switch version of DQXI losing a lot of points in the most wanted lists in Japan after Square Enix's announcement that the game was coming goodness knows when.  Hopefully these devs realize this sudden drain of enthusiasm is the fault of them not launching the game at the same time as other versions.

I think GoW4 could become the #1 best selling exclusive first few week this gen in the US. Halo 5 did around 1.3m fw in the US and thats #1 so GoW could do 1.4-1.5m in April.

I find it hard to believe that Halo has the record, are you sure on that?

Got it from Resetera. Halo 5 at 1.3m followed by Mario Odyssey at 1.1m. But his is consoles only since the Pokemon games on 3DS have done a lot better.

I highly doubt it will shake up the formula like BOTW/SMO did either but i dont really think it needs to.

Look at Mario Kart 8. The Switch release is just an updated port of the Wii U release with a few extras yet it will outsell the Wii U version in under a year and will easily sell 2-3x as much lifetime. Many of these extra sales are probably from people who owned a 3DS but not a Wii U so MK8D is a huge improvement over MK7.

A similar result is highly likely for Smash, it will outsell the Wii U release by the end of the year, will likely sell 2-3x as much lifetime and for 3DS owners who didnt own a Wii U it will be a huge leap forward.

mario kart is a much bigger franchise then smash. it will be interesting to see how strong smash is on one platform.

Super smash bros brawl 13mil. There is your answer. As for mario kart that has nothing to do with what he was referring too. He is talking about a point that flew over your head unforntually

Mario kart did 38 million on wii, so i don't think we should look at the wii for reference, to what a franchise baseline. i know what he was referring too basically wiiu vs switch in terms of how games are selling.

Well I would say Smash definitely has more of a core-gamer leaning, for lack of a better term.  And also did not benefit at all from the motion control craze that helped Mario Kart grow that much.  So much like 3D Mario, I think the Wii is a fine enough metric in this instance.  Plus when you compare Brawl to Melee, the growth in sales relative to growth in install base is well within acceptable levels.

Omg what the hell! Why do you bring up points that no brings up?

That said MK8D is a port thats going to sell at least 15mil lifetime.... How in the hell do you think a new MK would of sold if a port sold that much lol? If switch does close to 100mil a mk9 could do 30mil+

Now the PSN cards are gone.

Sony and Amazon need to rectify this!

umm being port is a huge benefit,  because mario kart can come out so early in the system life time, and there are very little options, plus most who owned wiiu were hardcore nintendo fans i'm sure most would double dip for a portable version, not to mention the extra modes and 1080p. zelda on wii was a GC port yet it destroyed skyward in sales, also mario galaxy came out when wii install base was samll yet it out sold mario galaxy 2 by a huge amount. when ever mario kart 9 comes out it won't outsell mario kart 8.
