Yeah 3DS slowly dying.

Didnt the 3DS just have it's best january since 2013?

In the US, but to be fair it was also the first 5 week January since 2013.

Also, according to Media Create its down over 50% YOY in Japan.

Overall i would say its doing pretty decent considering this is year 8.

I'm happy to see that price cuts DO make a difference.  It annoyed me to no end every time I said that the Wii U needed a price cuts and got the responses: "It won't make a difference" and "it doesn't need it because games sells consoles".

Btw, good Switch numbers, but I’m curious to see what kind of boost Kirby will provide.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Price cuts help but they can only do so much if the hardware isnt appealing.

Price cuts would have helped Wii U but to what extent? Best base scenario, it would have sold close to GC levels or about ~20 million but on the other hand it would have caused greater losses which wasnt worth it for Nintendo.

I think the PS4 is being overtracked in Europe relative to the switch. There will be future corrections to the European numbers. No way is the PS4 doing as well as it did last year in Europe.

What exactly is your reasoning though?

Mostly from following Amazon trends. That is also what makes it tricky because the percentage of the Amazon market isn't really clear. But relative to last year, the PS4 hasn't done as well in France, Germany and Spain on Amazon in Q1 2018 (A quick analysis of monthlies for the first 3 months of both years illustrate this). I find it hard to conclude that the trend on Amazon isn't really being repeated elsewhere with other things holding steady.

It's possible I suppose, but hasn't VGC been rather close with its PS4 estimates whenever Sony announces an official sold-through number?

That is true, the PS4 has been a relatively steady beast for at least the past 2 years. That is also precisely why it will take a while for a change in the trends to be picked up. It is important to note that the PS4 is approaching saturation plus the Switch didn't exist in 2016 and its effect is just starting to bed in. Those 2 factors will start having an increasing impact which will only pick up through 2018. I think I am already seeing the effects on Amazon.

It is a theory anyway, Sony's next update should shed more light on this.
