The fact that Microsoft still either requires AA batteries or a 30 dollar battery pack is laughable to me, and sort of the cherry on the cake.

I actually prefer the AA Batteries. Want to know why?
I don't have to live a cabled life when the controller goes flat, just hot swap the batteries out for new ones.

Plus... Controllers with built in lithium batteries will eventually fail, it's not a matter of if, but when. - They are only good for a finite amount of cycles.
Someone like myself can easily swap the cells out, but your average person? Nah.
I intend to keep my consoles for decades, so long life is important.

And the other issue is energy capacity.
The Playstation 4's controller has a pathetic 1,000mah battery. 1,000mah. I'll let that number sink in.
3,000mah AA batteries are easy enough to find these days... And if you wish to go the Ultrafire route, 3,500mah.
Which means the Xbox controller can have 6-7x more battery capacity than the paltry Playstation 4 controllers.

Sure, Microsoft's approach might cost you more, but it's easily the option that gives you more options and that to me, means it is the superior choice without question.

SO much this.  I never had a problem with rechargeable batteries, though MS should really sell a controller for $10 more max that has an included pack that you can swap, or even one built in.  I get selling an extra pack for 30, but someone buying a new controller should have the option to get it for cheaper.

I second the PS4 controller dying to quickly.  I just use my cell phone charger to charge it though.

I really dislike MS for several reasons (one of them being paid multiplayer, which, sadly, has spread to the competition as well), and I'm not sure MS has a single exclusive I care about since I have a PC (and nothing too great even without a PC).

RE: your first point... You might as well just say you hate big business.  Sony gladly jumped to it, and Nintendo wants a piece of the pie too.

Look at Nintendo's recent pricing structure in general... clearly Japanese companies operate for max profit, just like American ones.  Its a universal language and the ONLY way to keep it in check is to vote with your wallet.

I got PS4 for couch gaming, it has great exclusives and huge player base. Switch for anywhere gaming, again, great exclusives and fantastic local co-op machine. And PC for the very best exclusives, silky smooth gameplay and everything else. All of those systems offer different experience, but what really sells them is software. So why would I throw extra few hundred $$$ on another system, which offers little to none exclusivity, where I could spend that money on the software for my existing machines? Even if XB1 was my first choice this gen, looking at what Sony's got to offer today, I'd probably sell it by now and buy PS4.

Somebody actually put that they don't like the controller? I thought that was widely accepted as the best form factor for a controller (used by Xbox, Wii U Pro Controller, and PC). Hell, even my Oculus Rift came bundled with an Xbox controller.

I don't know why people are so surprised, to be honest. The analogs are great, but that's really the only good thing about the Xbox One controller. The bumpers are too clicky, the triggers are too mushy, the face buttons are soft, and the d-pad sucks.

The shape is great and the analog sticks are arguably the best ever. That's really all it has going for it; just so happens to be the two things that are the easiest and most prevalent to experience when you hold the controllers by default.

This. It's kinda not great for fighting games (which i love) so its not a perfect controller by any means. But i dont think such a controller exists

I've toyed with the idea of a second console, but I honestly do not have the time for more than one gaming machine.  I barely have the time needed to keep up with one machines game releases that I'm interested in.  I haven't even bothered with any digital titles.  So no point in making the investment.

Eh. I do generally dislike big businesses, but to me, Microsoft seems even worse than the competition.

I have a Switch and thinking about getting a ps4 to go along with that. Never ever been interested in owning a Microsoft console and the XB1X did nothing to make me want one anymore than I already do.

tbh Im surprised 35m people bought a XB1, thats how badly outclassed the XB1 is imo.

I did buy an Xbox console though

I don’t have an Xbox console...... I have two ;)

If account sharing worked on more than 2 consoles I’d buy a third formthe bedroom.

I can see why many would see no use for it though, particularly if you have an able gaming PC.
