Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Polygon: Microsoft's Current Dilemma With Games

Maybe PUBG Corp.

No chance on the others.

I read this rumor today but didn't even realize FIFA would become an Xbox exclusive, this one move would singlehandedly flip the european market and put Sony at a HUGE disadvantage. still we're talking about hundreds of bilions of dollars here, it's hard to say wether MS would attempt making such a move

There is no way Fifa would ever allow that. A reason why every major system gets at least one Fifa game is due to the Fifa organization mandated it. If Microsoft were to make it even just console exclusive I can see Fifa taking the license away from them.

Same goes for the NFL with Madden and Disney with Star Wars. There is no way those juggernauts would let those IP's go console exclusive.

Yeah but Valve literally makes millions just by owning Steam since they get like a 30-35% cut or smoething like that off of every other game released on there lol, seems like they would never need to.

Yeah and microsoft has just literally billions on the side and is alway on the forbes 10 list for best Brand name.

Well yeah Microsoft has billions as well and could try to ask them but i'm just saying I just feel like Valve wouldn't go for that since that would basically be them giving up Steam which is huge as they've been building it up for years to the point where there's no real competition even out there against it so far. Plus Valve usually does things their own way so I can't see them wanting to be controlled by another company.

If Microsoft did this this is what I'd thing would happen.
EA: Games will still come to PS4 and Switch but will launch on Xbox gamepass to push the program.
Valve: MS will incorporate Xbox live into steam and put their games on it.
PUBG Corp: PUBG Corp will get the Minecraft treatment.

I feel like the EA one sounds only slightly more plausible since they already have EA Access on the Xbox and if Microsoft is truly trying to make the future of all their exclusives and stuff on Game Pass then buying EA would be a hell of a way to bring even more games onto it and make it even more of a huge deal.

then they could just put low effort in the PS4/Switch versions of the games, nobody would buy a 360p FIFA that runs at 10 FPS

I feel like that would still piss off Fifa. Hell the backlash that Battlefront 2 got reportedly reached the heads of Disney. I hate to see what would if most versions of Fifa sucked except the Xbox version.

I don't think Microsoft could afford EA or Valve.

PUBG sounds very possible though.

They could easily afford to buy EA and Valve but I don't think Valve would let them and if they bought EA I think games will still be multiplat but launch on Xbox gamepass.

I can't see them acquiring EA let alone Valve. Valve is a private company and Gabe has turned down multiple attempts from deals like that before. EA makes their own piles of money, so I don't see it happening on their terms.

PuB is 50/50, though the studio has turned down the previous offer from being bought out before. Even if they were bought out, it'd mean the studio would end up spamming the same kind of games until popularity dries up and they get put out back and shot.

If they ever bought out Valve, I'd probably revert to GoG/Battle.net entirely. MS has tried to control PC gaming for years and it's always backfired and proven that they really do not care for what PC gaming stands for, let alone what it's gamers want. Them buying out Valve would mean a the undoing of what Steam/Valve brought to the table, and a reversion of PC gaming in general.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

WTF, that'd be such a huge monopoly if they did that.
