Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Labo-ratory: VGC OFFICIAL Labo Thread (Vehicle Kit out now)

I think that there are an awful lot of people (I'm not just aiming at VGC users, here) that just aren't understanding the whole "For kids and the kids at heart" concept.  It's pretty simple, really.  If you aren't a kid, or a kid at heart, or a parent with young children...this isn't for you.  It isn't meant for you, it isn't being marketed towards you and there is zero reason to talk about how stupid the concept is, because...it isn't being made for you.

The concept came from way out in left field, I agree.  Who would have ever seen something this zany coming, even from Nintendo?  But, it's pure genius.

This is a perfect idea for parents who spend time with their kids doing arts and crafts, to then be able to combine these "science projects" with technology in a way such as this.  The added ability for kids to color or put decals on their projects to really make them their own vs them coming with pre-determined designs/colors is cool.  I'm not saying there certainly will be, but there could be huge potential for these "Toy-con" to advance and grow through all sorts of different ideas.  Looking at what they've already thought of, hopefully the only limit is imagination on the part of Nintendo, or 3rd parties that may come up with some innovative ideas that Nintendo doesn't.  Even if the toys aren't a long term success (I don't personally see them being a long term part of their business model), how many toy lines are a one or two year hit, make their money and then are no longer the thing to have.  Didn't necessarily make it a bad toy for it's time.

Also, on a side note.  This project is not taking away from time spent on developing the "gamer's games".  The teams responsible for triple A titles like Metroid or Mario are not doing Labo mini games software and in turn delaying those bigger games.  That's just ridiculous.

Anyone who buys these is a chump, regardless of what price they list it as. The idea itself is very Japanese and the mark up is going to be ludicrous considering it's made out of cardboard...

Indeed just thinking of mature people buying this for themselves is just depressing. And I just had seen a lot.

No need to make personal attacks just because you don't like the idea.

Telling people that I think they're chumps for buying a mark up gimmick is attacking them? It's actually an opinion, but whatever - be offended I guess.

Here I'll dumb it down for you, very plain Jane comment:

I think the Nintendo Labo (how is that even a word?) is stupid.

Welcome to the forums. You'll eventually learn to take what you mean to say and put it in a more palatable form like I did.

Instead of saying: Anybody that buys this is a chump.

Try saying: $80 for a tech demo and some cardboard? IMO this is only worth $40 tops, and if you buy it you're just giving Nintendo extra money.

Actually children aren’t interested in this at all. A kid knows more the value of cardboard. Garbage. But some people who are mature enough would be more interested unfortunatetly. People with “issues”. And Nintendo knows that. So actally this whole idea is very pathetic I insist, plus thinking in somebody else mental issues just because some weird idea.

So what if a mature person buys something for children for themselves?

Hey man I buy child oriented products for myself all the time. (Funko Pop, Mega Construx) But I do have a beef with Nintendo charging $70 (yes I know it comes with a game) for a glorified pizza box.

the $70 and $80 price tags may seem like a lot, but remember that the base price for a game is $60, so really youre just paying an extra $10 or $20 for the peripheral.

they also specifically said this was a product targeted at kids. they still have a ton of AAA games targeted at the core gaming market (Bayonetta trilogy, Metroid Prime 4, etc.) coming this year, so dont act like they are giving up and looking for a cheap gimmick.

Seriously? So everyone who likes something that you find childish has mental issues?

Yes the price seems a bit much, however, it includes software to play with it.

Although I do hope these games are playable WITHOUT the Labo toys.

How would that piano one work without the cardboard?

You couldn't be more wrong with that statement.  kids love building, they love coloring, they love to discover how things are built or work.  Kids love to play with empty boxes and use their imagination.  A box can be anything from a cave to a boat to a castle.  And now with this idea, a box can be even more.  These are almost like science projects for kids.  I've personally seen kids see the video and say "I want to do that".

Also, jigsaw puzzles are made from cardboard.  noone has a problem with jigsaw puzzles.  =p

So much saltiness over others people choice

Newsflash: it's not just box, it has plenty design work on this to make it functional with the console and the software that it is also included with the kit.
