Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Nintendo holding everything back for end of 2018 ??

Octopath Traveler is one of most anticipated games atm.

The truth is quite the opposite.Nintendo went all in 2017, so much so that 2018 suffered as a result. That was necessary because Nintendo needed to prove that the Switch could be a success basically all on its own with the support of a few but great indie developers.Having that done, they are now relying more on third parties and Wii U ports to hold them over until their titles are ready and they can again release new games on a steady schedule.

it was necessary because most switch games were wii u games that were hold back and needed to release scince they were already finished

They're okay.

my god.. it's been f*cking 2 weeks of this year :P chill..

Nintendo needs more than just two or three big new games every year. This is the problem that the Wii had late in its life cycle, and the problem that the Wii U had almost its entire existence.

Wii U's Abysmal Release Schedule Of Big New Games...

Winter 2012: New Super Mario Bros U.
1st Half of 2013: Absolutely Nothing
2nd Half of 2013: Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World
2014: Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros. (A decent year IMO)
1st Half of 2015: Nothing until Splatoon released in May.
2nd Half of 2015: Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X
All of 2016: Nothing except for Tokyo Mirage Sessions in June

2013 was a poor year for the Wii U releasing only two new big name games.
2014 was a decent year with four new big name games.
2015 was dissapointing again with only three new big name games.
2016 was a horrible year seeing only a single big new game.

Compare these years to Nintendo's 2017 and it's almost night and day. We had five big new games, two of which were GOTG caliber.

2018 needs four to five big new games as well. Octopath, No More Heroes 3, and Fire Emblem are already confirmed for this year. We just need one or two more games, and 2018 will be fine.

I don't know, Bayonetta 1 and 2, Dark Souls, Payday 2 and Wolfenstein 2 are good games which will make Switch's line up for 2018 pretty decent, for now. We didn't know what to expect until june last year and we got amazing games like Mario+Rabbids, L.A. Noire or Doom, and they weren't even announced earlier than june. And we're just in january, why should they be doomed already ?

Three things...

1. There is likely a full direct coming very soon. EVERY Mini direct ever given to us was followed by a full direct less than 20 days later to cover the bigger stuff. Look it up!

2. There is plenty already, especially if you did not own a WiiU. Hell if anything I can hit my backlog now. I can see why one who owned a WiiU got upset, but it is no different than the first 2 years of PS4 mainly being cross gen releases and people crying about that. Over 70 mil consoles later, we all know how that turned out.

3. It is Jan...do you even realize just how much time there is to drop info on new games? It seems like haters are really grasping for straws here and Nintendo fans are way too worried about nothing. Remember what happened last jan when people tried to say the Switch would only have BotW in 2017 and that Mario and Xenoblade would be delayed? Again, we all know how that turned out...

There will be a Direct on anniversary I'm calling it.
But other than that, I think the planning is set until May but they will add some smaller titles and Indies. For the people without a Wii u the planning is already incredible and I'm pretty sure some wii u users didn't buy all the titles coming to Switch anyway.

I think Yoshi and Octopath will release in June and the rest of the year will be revealed during the next Direct (that I think will be on march 3rd or a week after to share first year numbers, future of the Switch etc).

Remember guys, they expect to sell over 20 million consoles starting March. If the president is saying that so early on, it's because they are really certain they can achieve it. They have analysts and they won't call something so silly if they don't have big titles for the rest of the Year. Nintendo also said in an interview that big system seller will be coming to Switch in 2018 and games no one imagined were in development... just be patient. There is no way you guys finished every interesting game the Switch has to offer already :p

I dont understand your point. Many games that release when a new gen starts probably starts as a previous gen title, but its moved to the other system because that system needs games. And Im talking first party here.So whats your point?

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
