If X1X came sooner and cheaper it would feel half backed like the Pro. Which has even less CPU power, no additional RAM (better textures), and even less capable of 4K. Even when it launched I said the Pro should have been $499, because for a Premium console its simply not doing enough and it might have sold even better at a higher price with better specs.

X1X will be outdated very soon? Depends how long until we see a console with better specs like PS5 which would also be more expensive. At best, that would be two years. That would also make this a short generation for Sony in spite of their success. That could be perceived as Sony being reactive to the X1X.

Also, if the PS5 launches in 2020 or 2021, then MS could simply launch a more powerful device the year after. Hence, there is always a more powerful device around the corner.

Its worth considering the X1X may be supported longer because it could better handle 9th gen games while and OG X1 support may not be required. As I've stated before, X1X could be treated as the budget 9th gen console.

Microsoft did the right thing launching the Xbox One X when it did, 2017 was a really really shitty year for Xbox... And the Xbox One X is the bright spot for the brand.

Of course I would always want more hardware for my coin... That's the enthusiast in me talking... Hard to argue for $650 AUD the hardware that you are getting. Could have been $50 AUD cheaper though.

Microsoft just needs to back it up with games next year.

Not an amazing year for exclusives. There was respectable content like Halo Wars 2, Forza 7, Tacoma, Cuphead, and PUBG is an honorable mention. But this is also a platform that doesn't rely simply on exclusives, nor does PS4. So even if the exclusives are lacking there was plenty of notable 3rd party content. Hence, saying it was a shitty year implies you're oblivious to the countless multiplat games.

As far as big budget retail games, it looks MS has that covered in early 2018. Maybe some surprises for the holiday as well.

Halo Wars 2 wasn't as great as the first game.
It's multiplayer was also dead a few days after release in Oceania, making a large chunk of the game all but useless.

Also not exclusive as it is also on PC.

Mr Puggsly said:

Forza 7

Goes without saying as it's a yearly milked franchise.
Racing games aren't mah thang anyway.

Also not exclusive as it is also on PC.

Probably the best Xbox game of the year. - But that makes the platform seem sad as it's only an "arcade" title.

Also not exclusive as it is also on PC.

A buggy, ugly, un-optimized PC port? Nah.

Also not exclusive as it is also on PC.

Never heard of it. Also on Steam so I will check it out. Thanks.

But every platform has tons of notable 3rd party content.

I am pretty sure the Playstation 4 gets more 3rd party content than the Xbox anyway thanks to it's abundance of support from Japanese developers which often release games on PC/Mobile/Switch/3DS but not Xbox.
Can't be arsed looking at the game library comparisons right now though, but looking at multiplatform game counts the Playstation 4 beats the Xbox One.

I have heaps of other platforms. Why would I buy the Xbox One X version of PUBG when the game is clearly superior on my PC? At-least on my PC I can actually have 30fps.

The Xbox One as a platform has had a shit year. There are a few bright spots which I alluded to, such as the Xbox One X, but that is as far as my praise can go.

There are a ton of games that have my interest picked in 2018. Namely Sea of Thieves, so hopefully it's a solid title, Xbox needs to start smashing games out of the park... And I need a reason to actually turn my Xbox One X on and invest in a game or two.

No doubt that 2017 was the worst year for Xbox as far as games is concerned, the moving of titles into 2018, cancellation of titles and studio's hasn't helped matters in the slightest.

I have played my SNES classic more this year than the Xbox, doesn't that just say it all?

You know I meant console exclusive.

You don't have to respond to me with your personal thoughts because I don't really care, I'm speaking more generally.

Switch had all those notable multiplat games of 2017? I know every console has 3rd party games, but not the same notable content.

You must really enjoy SNES games, good for you. But I don't think that's reflective of the average Xbox user. You keep thinking you're the average gamer, you're not. You're an interweb forum dweller.

And again, you knew I meant console exclusive while the PC audience is not a direct competitor per se. Which is why PC sometimes shares games even when a company buys exclusivity.

Your personal voice wasn't asked for and I didn't respond to it. I'm speaking in more general terms so your personal thoughts will mostly be ignored. Might as well go talk to a wall at that rate.

Switch hasn't really gotten the big Japanese support yet. It'll come but that's a market Sony and Nintendo primarily fight for. Xbox just gets some of it because it has an audience, easy to port and extra money, like FFXV and MGSV.

X1 may be a minority console but it still has a very viable userbase, unlike Wii U which ultimately killed Nintendo in the home console arena. Switch is simply doubling down on handheld which was always successful.

So you played SNES Classic more than X1? What does that even prove? Odds are you played games found on X1 but on other platforms. This is why your anecdotal comments add nothing, you're simply out of touch. "I played multiplat games on other machines so therefore X1 has nothing to play." This is basically your logic and its an ignorant perspective.

Disagree.
Exclusive by it's very definition means it is only available on 1 platform.

Releasing a game on the Xbox... With about 30~ million consoles.... And then releasing it on the PC which numbers in the Billions is not exclusive, calling it a console exclusive is disingenuous and is thus the moving of goal posts to make people of their (Insert console of choice here) feel better about themselves.

Switch hasn't gotten any kind of support yet, but I listed it in the list because, well. Prior examples and all that... Unless you are suggesting I am somehow incorrect and that the Switch will not have more Japanese titles than the Xbox?

Correct. I did play mutliplat games on other machines that provided not only superior image quality, but superior performance and for a lower price. (I.E. ACTUALLY BEYOND 1080P!)
And yes, that is logic, thanks for recognizing it.

For a user like myself, what would you suggest I play? PUBG? That game is a technical laughing case, fact of the matter is... If Microsoft wants me to buy it's games on Xbox, it has to actually bother to release them exclusively. - I am not going to kiss their feet and give them endless praise for giving me an inferior experience compared to other platforms, that is stupid.

Fact is, the Xbox One has no exclusives, there is ZERO reason for me to power it on or buy games for it... And that is certainly in stark contrast to the Original Xbox and Xbox 360 which did actually have exclusive games and that I actually did have a ton of fun with.

The main difference between us is that I am not an apologetic towards any console/brand, I own an Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One X and can give appropriate constructive criticism.

You know I meant console exclusive. PC is not 8treated as direct competitor. You can even play PS4 exclusives on PC thanks to PS Now and ports.

You cared enough to share your personal views and I didnt respond to it. So dont bother wasting the time.

Im saying Switch will get Japanese support but Xbox gets some as well. Especially content that appeals to the west. Which might skip Switch. Hence, Switch doesent get notable multiplat content like Xbox.

MS has games coming and even Sony has reduced its number of studios.

Saying SNES classic has original games is like saying Xbox BC has original games. Boy, what a dumb comment.

Again, youre making arguments that simply show youre out of touch. People are playing multiplat games on Xbox. Thats why it keeps getting games.

But that’s the problem...it’s late and expensive. It’s late in the gen already. 500 for a console that will probably outdated very soon already seems like a tough proposition. I’m not questioning the value, it’s good value for sure, no rip-off at all.. but few people will find the motivation to buy one at such a high price nearing the end of the gen, especially without stand out games to show it off.

We’ve had this discussion before. Once newer games will make use of the new Ryzen based CPUs, Jaguar simply isn’t gonna cut it anymore.

6-7 years would not be a short console cycle. The 7 years of last generation were/can be considered extraordinarily long. Sony stated at the start of this generation that they’re not planning to repeat this. All generations before were more like 5 years long.

Concerning the later release of a more powerful platform....It won’t change a thing. It doesn’t now and unless MS sells a more powerful platform for less money with a similar amount of exclusives MS is never going to come anywhere as close to Sony, as they were last gen, when Sony fucked up their start. Sony’s worldwide appeal is on a completely different level.
