Forums - Gaming Discussion - Soooo did the Xbox One X succeed?

I don't think so. there is not much selling incentives for the XONEX besides more resolution. At least PS4Pro counts with 1st party exclusives which are the only reason i own a PS4 since I play all multiplats on PC.

Resolution, performance, better textures thanks to more RAM. Thats worth something for people who play multiplats on consoles.

Anywho, I think X1X is a success. I mean its an option for those who want higher visual fidelity in the console arena, its given Xbox the technical edge, its changed the narative on specs. I dont think its a huge game changer but its a boost for the Xbox.

I think X1X has potential to do well in the coming years when its like $250 (holiday 2020 maybe) and assuming it can handle 9th gen content well. It will inevitably have the price edge on PS5 with the same multiplat games. That could buy MS time to release a device technically superior the following year while still relying on the cheaper X1X.

None of that is true though because of parity. It was the same before the upgrades and it will always be true. People are fooling themselves because they are biased and had to justify paying $500 dollars. No one can see a difference in multiplat games. You can't tell which is which without knowing the game is for a specific platform. Most mutiplats look average anyway like AC and Shadow of War. Neither have great graphics and those are the games MS has deals with claiming they look better on the X. Uncharted 4 on standard PS4 look better than any game on the X.

Allot of enhanced games don't have 100% parity.
The Xbox One X versions are often a step up over the Playstation 4 Pro.

On the games front yes. Lots of games are getting upgrades that make them 4K or very close to 4K and better textures etc.
Sales front yes it's selling well but I expect sales to slow down.

On the point of SW I have to agree so far it was a successful support, greater than PS4Pro.

From what is being seen by DF and such though, that new machine isn't a 4k/60fps device either, there must be a point when people hold off a purchase beyond the promise of what it can do by the people aiming to sell it.

Buy a X1 for 1080p/60 get 720/900p/30fps

Buy an X1X for 4k... get a solid 1080p machine.

The thing is.... the machine is great for what it does, but it doesn't have the power to do what it was advertised as having, with "no compromises" it was just never built as such.

Was it advertised as a 4K/60 fps machine with no compromises? I can't remember that promise.

It was advertised as

  • the most powerful console so far (what it is... most multi-platform games look and/or perform better than on PS4 Pro)
  • the best suited console for 4K TVs (which is also correct, every resolution above 1920x1080 looks better in 4K, not only native 4K)
  • with native 4K support for some games (neither all games nor the majority of XBO games were promised for native 4K)

One of the talks from X1 higher ups said it was 4k60fps uncompromissed and several users here use that to claim X1X does really achieve that.

Most people could not even tell during the original ps4 and xbox launch. It was all basically according to what digital foundry said. And the difference they show have to be paused and zoom to see. Most don't do that.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

Yes. It sold around 430k at 499.99 compared to the pros launch of around 250k at 399.99 so I am going to say the XOX is a resounding hit with the hardcore.

You said no one... to bad you had someone that would notice them easily, and that is without CGI-Quality answering you as well.

USA only you mean right?

Someone already gave us that X1X sold about 650k WW FW, while PS4Pro was around 750k.

That's factually just incorrect. At X1X launch The Pro had 225 enhanced titles. The X1X had 70...both will have a few more by now but the gap will stay the same or even get bigger in the future. That's what one year head start does to you. You honestly shouldn't let Microsoft's shady marketing deceive you.

Your second statement is also incorrect. Most games on X1X have better resolution but don't look much different, just like Technarchy stated, simply because they are using the same assets. In terms of FPS most titles perform very similar  on Pro. About 1/4 of the titles even perform BETTER on PS4 Pro, according to Digital Foundry's comparison tests.

I wasn't counting in PSVR games since the x doesn't have any vr games and I was counting the announced games for both considering the x has only been out for a month. You have a source on that number?

Just watch the comparisons.

Generally there arent huge differences but there often isnt parity either. X1X titles tend to have higher resolutions, while higher graphics settings and textures vary.

Uncharted 4 is a great looking game but Gears 4 is arguably more impressive at 4K and with sharper textures. The 60 fps option doesent hurt either. Forza 7 also has an edge on GT thanks to resolution and textures. Hence, even when PS4 has arguably better assets the X1X still gets an edge from polish in other ways.

As one should expect even if from higher power...

We know there isn't parity clause. At most what is there is a dev that won't take additional resources to push higher one platform.
