I played the first hour and 30 minutes in this in portable mode and it honestly looked really good. Then again it was the opening. I'll try out portable in an open environment.

I'd rather not have bugs that tank the fps that require me to shut off my system, better voice acting that makes people want to just turn on the japanese voice acting, a handheld mode (if it's on the switch) that doesn't have the worst image quality of any first party game likely this gen at least from a higher budget title, and characters that don't look ripped from a budget jrpg. Fix that and the rest I'll let fly. Hopefully X2 will be better. |
I haven't encountered any bugs that tank the FPS below 25fps. I agree that NOA needs to stop being lazy and do a proper localization with the VA. I don't play this one in handheld mode, but I can agree with that. 500p in handheld is disappointing. Character designs aren't part of the technical aspect of the game, though. That's what I was ranting about.

I think you hit it on the head though. You easily get enough gear and XP to not require grinding. It's only a conscious decision of wanting things that the game makes you work for it. If you want the best skell, you're going to have to work for it, but you readily get skells, hell you even get a free one. You can master a class tree or two easily, but if you want to master them all you gotta work for it. You'll easily pick up adequate armor and weapons, if you want the best though, ect.
As for the probes, it's not like they didn't serve a function (fast travel). They also served other functions like miranium mining, and revenue which again only really effects the player if they want to get those sweet extras. Is it so much to ask someone to tap A when setting up a fast travel spot? This is super nitpicky if you ask me. |
Exactly. I didn't like having to work twice as hard as I did in Xenoblade 1, in order to get all the best equipment in XCX. If you just wanted to finish the game it's not grindy at all. But if you want to kill every boss monster, and upgrade your party to the maximum you're putting in twice as many hours to do it, as you had to in X1.

Oh I've already played a lot in TV mode. It's very, very inconsistent. The anti-aliasing used makes things occasionally blury near characters. The framerate can go down to 20 when you go near a town and then around 25 when in it until it evens out to 30 again. The game sometimes looks really bad but other times looks amazing. You'll have to see for yourself but I do think it looks very good at times

It isn't just memory steaming that is tanking the framerate.
The game is just too big for the standard Switch.

No, looking at Digital Foundry, the bad framerate troubles look very much like a bug. I've seen similar things before. It is most likely caused by the engine failing to completely purge unnecessary data from previously loaded levels/regions when exiting them. Large worlds like the Titans are made up of segments that are loaded in as you move towards them and unloaded as you move away. It seems the game is failing to properly do that in certain specific areas. Other games have had similar issues on PS4 and Xbone. This should be a patchable issue. Just a question of if they will.

Digital Foundry only went so far into the game.

well if it looks better than xcx i will be more than happy...
It’s a bit of a mixed bag. XCX has so many beautiful locations. I think they are harder to find in XC2. So far the most beautiful area I have come across is Uraya, where you arrive at around the beginning of the game. It’s a beautiful autumn location with that bio-luminescence that makes Xeno games so stunning. I have yet to see areas to top (or equal) Noctilum or Sylvalum, though. The potential is there.
I’ll just note that I am not seeing any of these crazy sounding performance issues that are being reported. The game has looked great almost every moment I’ve played with the sole exceptions being in the 0.3 to 1 second after skip traveling.
