Forums - Sales Discussion - UK: CoD WWII sales up 57% compared to Infinite Warfare, digital sales up significantly year-on-year

Via GfK Chart-Track: http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=2679&s=1111

Week 1 sales of ‘WWII’ are significantly higher than ‘IW’, in fact some 57% higher in units and 21% higher in revenue (last year sales on Legacy / Legacy Pro editions were substantial, which is why overall ASP last year was significantly higher).

Some more info via GamesIndustry: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/amp/2017-11-06-uk-charts-call-of-duty-wwii-launch-57-percent-bigger-than-infinite-warfare

The game's success doesn't quite match 2015's Black Ops III, at least in physical form. This is to be expected as Black Ops is by far the strongest Call of Duty sub-brand. However, the data does not factor in digital sales, and GamesIndustry.biz understands that digital console sales for WWII are significantly higher year-on-year, and have taken a larger share of the market. This follows our story last week about the rapid acceleration of digital growth in the console space.

It suggests the move back to a historical setting has rejuvenated the franchise.

57% of sales were on PS4, while Xbox One accounted for 42% of the market (the rest coming on PC)

Doesn't surprise me. lol

Infinite warfare was damaged goods, so it isn't that surprising. It not doing as well as black ops 3 is more telling though.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

With the significant increase in digital sales the past few years it very well could have beaten BO3.

Only 1% of sales on PC sounds kinda weird.

All the figures they give are for physical sales only. The only thing they know about digital is that it's higher then last years.

Ah ok, that makes sense.

Fantastic news for cod. Good sales on ps4 too. Good to hear digital rising

This is kind of disappointing actually. I'm not a fan of COD, but I absolutely hate world war 2 games (sooo fucking boring!) so I'm really hoping the success of this doesn't encourage more of them.

If you aren't a fan why are you hoping they stop making ww2 games? The fans of the series are happy of the change and the sales show that.

Call of Duty is back.
