Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Kinect is officially dead

oh okay. My question: Who liked Kinect in the past ?

Would interest me. Who misses it?

I use my Kinect everyday.  I've never played a game with it though.  I use it to control my devices with voice commands, and the like.

I'll miss it a bit.  But, I think it has been on its way out of my life anyway.  The problem is, voice controlled stuff has come a long way since Kinect 2.0 launched 4 years ago.  But, the functionality of Kinect has not progressed.  What was awesome 4 years ago is an inferior device today.

This is perfect. And with every step the PR machine manipulated their fanbase into supporting and defending the slow decline. The final Tweet will be 'It wasn't very poplular anyway. Who cares?'

You can see this taking place with everything MS does. Currently their PR is trying to convince their fanbase Singleplayer isn't necessary.

It's added to the list of recent Microsoft failures in the consumer space that have been officially canned:
Windows RT
Microsoft Band
Lumia line of phones (and now Windows Mobile officially)
Groove Music

It's a considerable amount of dead weight Microsoft has been shedding recently. Mobile is particularly egregious for me because of their "mobile-first cloud-first" mission statement as well as continued public comments about their commitment to mobile. I've been using it for about 5 years now and that entire ecosystem is going to be a waste when I have to jump ship to a new OS.

Unfortunately they were blowing sunshine up people's butts.

I have two for Xbox One and one for Xbox 360. Good memories, even when they didn't work right. I'll continue using mine for Xbox One for things like signing in and controlling my devices even though XBO I and XBO X have IR Blasters built in.

One weekend with me and the way I used Kinect would convince anyone that it was a good investment. Getting rid of "snap" cut my usage dramatically, though. I always felt that if XBO X and VR caught on, Kinect 2.0 could be the best interface around.

Maybe them getting rid of Snap was a precursor to this. I miss being able to multitask using Snap.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.
