Forums - Movies & TV - I thought Orville was bad, but then...

Loved it. Although I'm actually more familiar with the new JJ abrams Star Trek than the old ones.

I will riot if The Expanse gets cancelled. It needs to be wrapped up respectfully like Battlestar Galactica.

And I am hoping after a few more episides the Orville and Discovery start to come into their own.

Orville episode 4 was nice. The humor is rather hit and miss, but it does feel like a cross between tos and tng. It took tng a few seasons for the actors to become comfortable with eachother, hopefully Orville will last that long. Though Bortus and Klyden remind me of Bert and Ernie...

I liked every episode of The Orville so far. I thought the premier was the funniest. I found the ending of the third episode to be quite well done. I'm predicting something happening with Ed and Alaura.

TNG and DS9 were crap their first few episodes, Discovery is much stronger out of the gates but still has issues. Give it some time.

Both TNG and DS9 are old, Gene's Trek. Discovery is Jar Jar's Trek (though they somehow managed to make it even worse then that), pretending to be in prime timeline. And with bad actress playing unlikable character I don't see how it can get any better.

On the other hand, Orville, which is homage to old Trek, is actually getting better - if only the cast was better (I know it's Seth's show, but he really should've exluded himself from it...for starters).

It's actually the federation that behaved as terrorists. The Klingons were protecting their sacred burial ground. They didn't even finish the Discovery off, left it drifting disabled so they could be rescued. Meanwhile the discovery put an IED on one of the dead the Klingons were retrieving to kill everyone on board.

I hope the writers grant the federation more depth than simply being expansionistic warmongers :p

True, I just felt that the show wanted our sympathy to lie with the main character moreso than the Klingons, though I would need to watch more episodes to tell if that was their true intention or if they are trying to build up an "a-ha!" moment where we see that Michelle Yeoh's captain was correct to attempt diplomacy rather than recklessly killing a bunch of Klingons in order to gain their "respect."

Perhaps it will go the other way. All we saw of the Klingons was merely Federation propaganda. We all know Klingons don't even look like that :p Fear mongering to drum up support for an illegal war to get their hands on Rura Penthe's dilithium crystal mines. Ofcourse all in the name of liberation and spreading human values. At least it will reflect current affairs.

Eh, just go out and explore.

The entire Federation vs Clingons purposefully draws parallels with Soviet Russia vs USA.

Episode 3 aired. Still not star trek, more like a cross between Event Horizon and Alien resurrection. A parallel timeline of grumpy evil federation.

Episode 3. This show is just Section 31 the show or Equinox from Voyager the show. It's so fucking terrible.

Yep...just like I originally said...steaming pile of shit....as Trek, anyway.

House of Cards? Stranger Things? Master of None? Okja? Narcos? The Keepers? Beasts of No Nation? Kimmy Schmidt? Lemony Snicket? Bojack Horseman? The Crown? Jessica Jones? Daredevil? Glow? Making a Murderer? Orange is the New Black? 13th? Seriously?

I'll admit I liked Stranger Things, but other than that I'm really not a fan of Netflix stuff. It all just seems so drawn out and boring to me.

Their are some shows I dislike like the weed shop one but they make so many good ones, even their Castlevania anime was surprisingly great.

Well just watched episode 3 and I like it even more, looks like it's going to be a good series.
