Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Halo 5 Xbox One X Update Detailed by 343’s O’Connor: Higher Res Textures But Likely Limited HDR

They are actually doing a real upgrade for Halo 5 with updated textures and not just going for a higher resolution.

This is great news.

Nov 7 please hurry!

343 Industries’ Halo franchise development director, Frank ‘Franky’ O’Connor, has provided some additional details about the upcoming Halo 5 Xbox One X update.

Halo 5’s Xbox One X update was announced by 343i back in July of this year, but other than that the game will support true 4K on Microsoft’s enhanced Xbox, no specific One X enhancements were detailed. On the NEOGAF forums, O’Connor, who goes by the name ‘Stinkles’, has now provided some additional details about Halo 5’s Xbox One X update. The contents of his post can be read below:

Yes you’re right. You’ll definitely see significant benefits from running on HDR sets, and of course the game itself renders in 4k and takes advantage of higher resolution textures (will be a serious download) and assets, but HDR specifically was tricky for a couple of reasons specific to H5 – the first being of course that it’s two years old and it’s not just a switch – you have to “touch” all the content. The game was developed during the period HDR systems were still being ironed out. Even now there’s a bunch of 10 bit/Dolby Vision etc issues for consumers.

Master Chief Collection will also be getting an update!

Halo 5 getting Lan support!

343i are phenomenal at supporting the Halo games. Halo 5 has likely had some very good legs aswell, making it financially motivated to do this upgrade.

Good to hear. Halo 5 is an already an amazing looking game. Definitely the icing on the cake here.

To be fair, a lot of the content added to Halo 5 is stuff you'd expect to see at launch. And MCC arrived with problematic, borderline broken matchmaking/lobby systems. So I think extra support was required.

That said, there have been a lot of generous, free updates for Halo 5. 343 has definitely rewarded fans who stuck with the game.

Halo 5 has been given a lot of love by 343 for sure.

I agree completely regarding MCC, but definitely not regarding Halo 5. Since their focus was to provide the largest MP ever in Warzone, is was only natural that other content couldn´t be implemented. We still got the largest Halo ever and all this added concent after its release. Now that they have the base concept of Warzone established, it will be easiet for them to make an even bigger game for Halo 6.

Really interested to see what resolution this runs at. The original XBO often went below 900p so the jump in image quality should be phenomenal.
