What does that have to do with what's said in this thread?  If anyone's spinning it's you.

Alright tough guy. Calm your tats please. Ready to attack arent you?

Because Trump said get those SOB's off the field. And the news twisted his words. People have the right to stand or sit. It doesnt harm me. I have plenty of friends and family in the miltary so I do it for them not for me. Im not exactly religious yet I hold my hand over my heart and respect "In God We Trust", and respect the flag and what it means for this country.

What Trump fails to realize is that NFL players are all members of a very powerful union so there is no chance that any of them would get fired for something as trivial as not standing up during the national anthem.

Those professional sports players aren't exactly doing nothing but kneeling, they're still doing profession sports after all

And while something as small as that seems like a silly reason not to watch a sport you enjoy, I gotta ask are ratings actually decreasing by any significant amount? I wouldn't really know where to look for ratings for NFL, although I did find super bowl ratings on wikipedia and that doesn't really show any decline (and even if it did I'd have to wonder if that may have been due to the teams involved rather than because of kneeling during the anthem).

I can agree that it won't really do anything towards fixing the issue. Especially since those with the power to actually do anything about it don't seem interested in even trying. But regardless, at least they are showing they recognise the issue and support a solution rather than just ignoring it.

NFL ratings made a huge decline last year (like a 10% viewership decline). I don't get why Trump is trying to make it seem like it's all about the anthem and flag when ratings have been in decline for a year.

I wonder how much viewership will decline when it has to compete with the World Cup!

The NFL better hope Mexico or the USA don't play on a Sunday.

He is threatening Americans to boycott the NFL, remember that football is really popular among conservatives and Republican voters.

Is this seriously happening, the president is complaining about sports? What's next, is he going to call people to boycott Grand Theft Auto because it disrespects the police?

Sorry for 3 posts in a row.

Meh, the only reason he is bringing up the NFL is to try to distract people from the shitty health care bill the Republicans are trying to pass don't think its working though since it looks like it will not pass again.

It's completely immature and unacceptable for the president not only to focus so much on this "issue" during such a time of crisis (how many of you know how terribly things are for Puerto Rico right now?), but to use such immature behavior and having a spokesperson blatantly stomping on the first amendment in the name of "patriotism." This further reinforces my beliefs that the Trump administration only cares about the illusion of patriotism and productivity moreso than actually doing anything substantial.

Also it's very telling of Trump's response to professional athletes kneeling down compared to what happened in Charlottesville

Guess what? Not everyone does. I don't need a flag or some anthem to help fellow Americans. People should be allowed to disagree and kneel without having the president of all people calling them sons of bitches

Maybe Trump should get his head out of his ass and care about issues besides sports. For fuck's sake, when did Obama devote his time whining about conservatives or players who despise him?

Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins refused to visit Obama and I don't remember him saying one thing about it.

People will say that it's different because 'Hockey is totally different in this scenario' or downplay it by saying hockey is irrelevant

Yeah it'd be nice if he talked about the countries devestated by the hurricanes, but nooo, clearly the nfl is the #1 priority for president.

You mean in 2022 when it's in November (unless they scrap the whole Qatar idea)?

Would there even be much of a clash? I mean, with the time difference and all... unless there are lunch time games in the NFL there shouldn't really be any competition.

I don't think Qatar is in the place to have one. It'll probably be moved

Most NFL games do start around lunch (1 PM), it's very likely there will be NFL games going head to head with the World Cup. That's the reason Fox (who own the TV rights for the World Cup) was so angry.

Yeah, I mean that.
