Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Off-Screen Nintendo Switch DOOM Footage

Far out. I have to say, as someone who remembers when portable games looked like this...

...it is pretty freaking amazing to see something like this running on a handheld device.

I'll very likely be picking this up when I get a Switch.

My one concern is docked mode, since it's being developed by Panic Button, whose port of Rocket League is one of the only Switch games not to run at a higher resolution when docked. I really do hope this time they take advantage of the much higher GPU clocks when docked to improve the TV experience.

The posts here are hillarious.

If one of you guys have ever played doom on the pc than you exactly know that all the other versions are garbage.

The console players here are talking like their 6 years old tech are the center of the universe. If i have 3 times garbage versions and 2 of them are just playable on the tv but only one of them on the tv and on the toillette than i would prefer the last one. All 3 are looking awfull but at leasr one is playable portable.

Even though this is worded kind of rudely, I have to agree. DOOM and really all of Bethesda-owned IPs have been PC focused. The only games that might be the exception is Wolfeinstein 2014(because they never fixed the terrible framerate) or the Dishonored series which is more or less just some side series

That looks real nice :)

Looks amazing, Switch truly is something else. First handheld being able to deliver the home console experience on the go.

Garbage is for the garbage man.

Switch (docked) 720p?30fps + whoknowshowlong load screens

I thought one of the main points of carts is that they are faster loading than disc.  Wait I forgot PS4 and One just have you install most the game anyways because the disc drive can't keep up.

Optimization looks great

Probably 30fps, but as long as it's solid then that is good enough

The IGN footage is horrible to see due to the reflection cast on the screen. But reading the preview, it seems that its an excellent port.I would have liked that Bethesda said on what resolution amd frames the game runs, but from the footage, it seems that is at least a 30 fps locked.
All that power argument about Switch not being able to run third party games, for the most part, has been thrown out the window.

To be fair, the base version of Doom ran at 60 on the twins (or close to it).

And better texturing, filtering, anti-aliasing, depth of field as well as resolution.
The post-processing pipeline seems to be mostly intact, which is good to see.

With that, iD Tech 6 has shown to scale downwards to low-end hardware really well and is thus not going to be representative of the Switch's capabilities of obtaining other multiplatform titles using other game engines, nor should any expect it.

Before we even knew the Switch's hardware, I always said it really depended on how well the platform sells as to whether it will even be considered for ports from developers/publishers. It all comes down to money in the end and whether it has a business case.

And lets face it... Nintendo gamers haven't been the best supporters of 3rd party multiplats in the past, which made such efforts on the Wii U pointless from a financial perspective.

In short, get behind these releases and support them if you can, especially if you wish to see more of it.

Well if that doesn't look like 30fps with drops. Guess I had too much faith in the Doom engine.

id Tech 6 is fantastic, and the port is still in development.
Given time I am sure they can get a Perfect 30 FPS.

Actually my faith was way higher than that^^

I hoped for 60fps if they just downgrade it enough. But it looks like they went for visuals over framerate which is so fucking stupid. I mean it already looks like a PS3 game, nobody would care if it drops even lower. But having 30fps in a very fast paced shooter is just sad. And I kinda doubt the finished product will be perfectly stable 30fps now.
