Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Is Microsoft preparing to fully embrace Steam?

Will MS start releasing their games on Steam?

Yes 24 29.27%

No 40 48.78%

This is only a VR thing 18 21.95%

They'll probably always want to promote their Windows 10 store over Steam, but once they get the bulk of the money that they can from it, they'll probably move it onto Steam to to get more money.

I have a question why is steam so popular ?
I cant understand that

All your games in one place, can redownload them on any computer using your account, a tonne of sales on games too! What's not to like?

Thats good but if someone has shitty internet what can he do ?

Be glad that it's downloads rather than streaming? Even on shitty internet the games will still download... even if you have to wait a week to play them

Yeah thats the minus point i hope one day we get very highspeed internet that we have nothing to worry about and we can play them asap ;)

I doubt they will abandon W10 Store. They just announced Age of Empires DE and 4 exclusive to the W10 Store. So I think there exclusive to W10.

I actually get why it is popular and I have all my games on Steam. It is just so much easier. It works like the consoles, you buy a game (digital) and then you can install it on any console, you never lose-scratch the DVD-Blueray, etc... It is just so conveniant... When there is a new version, it is up to date automatically... And while I'm not using the friend list at all, I think this is also cool to have one friend list for all games. (I'm playing Blizzard games mostly for multiplayer).

what I don't get is people stating that Windows Store is so much worse when in fact it does exactly the same thing at the end just with less games available :)
I mean I get some people can have issues with Windows Store (games not installing properly etc...) but this happens also with Steam... So at the end both services are the same if you are using Windows 10.

For the OP, I do not see Microsoft doing that. Their AR headsets is more an hardware platform (as well as the Microsoft AR portal) so they openning it to Steam VR is just the right strategy.

There are a few options:

  • buy and play retail games for console and/or PC
  • buy and play smaller games (there are thousands of great games without big install sizes)
  • download bigger games in the background while playing the games you already have
  • get better internet

Windows store is a disaster I will most likely buy a lot of games boxed on xbox when I have my scorpio to avoid Windows store, like I purchased many EA games on PS4 to avoid origin xD

Your account get's hacked. Easily. Twice a day.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Probably not.

It would be great to free the games behind the awfulness that is the windows 10 store. But that would cut into their profits.

Probably just stream VR titles.

It is one of the worst online stores I've seen. On a new windows 10 install it doesn't let me reinstall Forza Horizon 3 unless, if I got it right, I download the Creators Update? Also lol they won't even let you choose where to install games when initiating like Steam.

If they wanted to get serious, they'd have a Steam app on Xbox One.
