Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will Age of Empires 4 be revealed at GamesCom this monday?

When will AoE4 come out? I think it'll be around end of 2018 or perhaps 2019. They did'nt even reveal gameplay or anything other than a cinematic intro of some sort. Should be way down the line.
But totally excited and only for PC. Awesome.

Age of Empires IV is in development by Relic Entertainment, creators of the Company of Heroes series and other beloved strategy games.

...

well I'll be damned.

Im just happy its real and happening and i would say its not out before late 2019 at the earliest but who knows. I can still play all the other Age of Empires for a few years, its been over a decade like that, i can wait a few more years and with all the games gettin definitive editions that will make the wait easier.

But its still funny, i will buy Age of Empires 2 and 3 for the third time LOL

Company of heroes is the best RTS released ever so that is good news.

The best RTS ever released is AoE 2.

Relic is a solid dev though, so this has hope.

Well we will have to disagree to agree then my friend. AoE2 was good but i always prefered WC2. Coh online play smokes them both. All 3 are masterpeices in there genres though. Seems no one can make RTS like that any more.

The mid 2000's produced some of the most graphically impressive games for years on end exclusively on PC, like Crysis and Stalker. You can't get away with that nowadays and make a profit while being exclusive. That doesn't have anything to do with AoE, but it's an example of how even with more popularity and awareness there are some things to consider.

It's ironic you mention Crysis...
Pretty sure Crysis+Warhead as a PC exclusive outsold Crysis 2 and 3 as a multiplat if I recall correctly. (Haven't looked at numbers recently.)
And since Crysis 3, Crytek has had some significant financial issues.

Going Multiplatform is not always a guarentee to print more money.

Star Citizen is PC exclusive and has raked in the millions. Could it make more cash by pandering to consoles? Maybe.
But then they would alienate PC gamers who might have big wallets, there was a massive uproar on the Star Citizen forums when rumors of a console port circulated...

That much is true.

AoE 4 has insane expectations to live up to!

Just to be clear, I wasn't making the case that games sell more multiplatform. I was making the case that most developers that are officially triple A, are scared to make games exclusively on PC for fear of lower sales, so they go to multiplat formats. It's a stigma more than anything, and I don't believe it. Indie developers alone have proven that PC games can rake in millions of sales alone.

Microsoft announced a little earlier today that Age of Empires 4 is in development, but that's not the only big news on the AoE front. It also revealed that Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, with 4K graphics, a remastered soundtrack, and improved gameplay, will be released on October 19. Even better: Age of Empires 2 and 3 will be getting the same treatment.

The only problem is the windows store, and if it stays exclusive to it rather than going to steam, I will probably pirate AoE2 or not get it at all, but this is nevertheless huge.
