I haven't had a handheld since the gameboy. Was never interested in them except having the gameboy as a kid 25 years ago. But the Switch immediately interested me. I got rid of all my video games a few years ago and this was the first generation that I didn't buy anything and didn't have any plans to get a system again...until I heard about the Switch. The thing is just beautiful. Just got mine last week. Haven't even played in console mode yet, I'll mostly just play in handheld mode, even at home. Having a console experience in a portable is a pretty amazing thing!

Skyrim is kinda old but I think it'll probably have pretty good sales from fans who would love to play through it again on the go, plus it's a solid third party pickup to start to convince some of the ps/xbox crowd to pick up a Switch to play such titles anywhere. It's exactly the type of third party game that you never expect to see on a Nintendo console.

Did u have a Wii U. The 2 games I would buy on switch (BOTW & MK8) are both on Wii U so the incentive just isn't there. Skyrim just seems like the same thing: a game I already own, now with portable mode.

no, as i said i didn't get any current gen consoles and had no interest in them until the Switch. I can see their not being a huge need for a Wii U owner to get a Switch right now unless they are just interested in having the latest thing. But I think by the end of the year, between Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, a few other games, and the whole play console-level games anywhere, this will change. I was gonna wait until Mario Odyssey to get a Switch, even though I don't have a Wii U, but when there was finally a Switch available for me to purchase for the first time since it came out I just had to jump on it and I'm loving it!

granted 3 of the four games I have are available on the Wii U in some version (MK8, Zelda, Fast RMX), and I also have Mr. Shifty. But all 4 games are really good and I love that I can take them anywhere if I choose. And I don't need to hook up my tv to play which is great because 99% of the time my tv just sits on a shelf in my closet not plugged in.

I had skyrim on 360 back in the day, but reckon I'm gonna pick this up. Another huge game to sink my teeth into.

Why is he holding the device like that?

Too old and looks dated.
Everyone has already played it, might sell a handful.

That hasn't stopped people from buying another copy of GTA V for every single system it releases on.

Will it have mod support?

Anyway, those loading times are something else, that's one of the worst things about console gaming in general. 16 seconds loading to enter a dungeon and 10 seconds for a house is unacceptable to me.

That's in many ways just a Bethesda problem.  I think it is engine related, like many of the rough edge type problems that Morrowind, Obilvion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Skyrim, and Fallout 4 have.  They've made a valiant effort to keep the engine upgraded with the times but it's going on 15 years old now, they really need to move on.

Not to mention that Bethesda aren't exactly known for being cutting edge on the tech front to begin with, their engines aren't even that impressive when they're brand new. Skyrim SE with heavy mods looks fantastic though, even if it requires some serious horsepower to run.

For a port, and especially on a handheld/hybrid unit, it appears to run just fine and it looks fine as well.

While it's cool to have a portable Skyrim, as a Nintendo fan I haven't found a reason to even consider getting a switch yet. I never buy handhelds so I guess the portability thing is lost on me. Maybe when Metroid Prime 4 arrives.

say what?

aside from the whole online chat thing, Switch is a love letter to its fans with what it is, and the games that are out and coming out.  I can't come up with a reason not to buy one.

You don't have Splatoon 2 yet? Shame on you. :P

Yeah I suspect there are a lot of people in your boat, that played it back in the day but would get it again to be able to play it on the bus or on holiday. With Switch's portable mode there is finally a good reason for non-fans to buy the Nintendo version of a game.

Ooo boy! If I didn't hate Bethesda with the fury of 1000 suns, this would be another Switch+1 for me. For everybody else, cool.

haha, actually right now, as I play some mario kart, I'm trying to decide if I should just play Zelda (as I'm only like 4 hours into it), or just go ahead and buy splatoon 2 tonight haha
