I'd hope at least until Smash Switch comes out. That's all I use my Wii U for anyways.

Also, fun fact: All of the Call of Duty games on Wii, except World At War, still have online

Also Splinter Cell Blacklist.

Around the Network

Not so soon, there´s a lot of people still playing Super Smash Bros

Maybe end of 2017, will probably die together with Miiverse which already got a end of service message in the latest 5.5.2 update.

I agree with when the new smash comes out, but why would they make a completely new smash? The Wii U version is a wonderful base to bundle together assets. I predict that Switch Smash is going to be the definitive version of Smash Brothers. They will bundle updated resolution versions of all features, stages, and play modes from other versions. There may be a new single player mode and a few new characters or promise of new ones later.

Because fighting games no matter how good can always opt for a different approach the next game like SFIII to SFIV, I'm pretty sure if Smash 4 was going to be ported to Switch it would have already happened or at least been announced by now.

Blacklist is for the WiiU!

My guess is in around 2 years.

WHAT!?!

Yup lol. I guess they run on Activisions servers and World at War ran on some other server.

There's still a good amount of people playing each one which is a surprise.

Holy hell, and here I am failing to find a single Arena session in the recently released Elite Dangerous on the PS4. Wow.

That's crazy! I'd give anything to fire up Mario Kart Wii one last time. Good for CoD fans, though.

Wii servers were shut down for most games because the contracted company (Gamespy) got bought up by someone who had no interest in keeping the servers online, so they proposed to charge a ridiculous amount to keep them going. Nintendo and others (including developers of PC games who had Gamespy servers) all opted to shut down the online functionality for their games.

Since the online is under better control on Wii U, the servers should keep going until only a negligible amount of players is left.

this is the case hopefully

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

I say 2018. Maybe 2019 if we're lucky. The Wii U didn't have a large install base, and I don't see the online lasting super long.

You do want to consider pacing for releases and the timing of ARMS though.  Nintendo wouldn't have risked Smash overshadowing ARMS this year as the Switch fighter.  Also Switch is going to need more assistance next year to keep the hype going.  They will likely have a Smash deluxe next year around the same time that they had Mario Kart Deluxe but with a lot more additions added during development this year, which is why I think we will get what I suggested.
