Uhmm no Nintendo wiill not and rightfully so have any plans for VR.   Wii motion control was revolutionary and poineering technology by Nintendo, Them coming on board with VR would just be another case of Johny come lately and we too kinda thing.

motion controls had been around for 10 years by the time the Wii released

what was revolutionary about it was Nintendo making it's console about it/quality software for the tech and ofcourse their big budget marketing campaign

coming late is not a problem, if you manage to "do it right" (or atleast can sell it as "done right"), like Apple with touch screen products

Good point though I will say Nintendo revolutionised motion control in way that they introduced such a device into the mainstream. I feel that VR is already mainstream with the likes of Sony, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Apple and Nintendo? the two companies now famous for selling under-powered hardware? you sure about that?

Apple could certainly help a lot by making their own headset. I wouldn't trust Nintendo to make good hardware for it if my life depended on it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

No one can make VR mainstream. This isn't Star Trek. The vast majority of people haven't, don't, and will not ever want to totally block off their surroundings. IMAX theaters have been around for how long, and they continue to do next to nothing compared to other types of theaters despite the massive push in recent years. There is a level of immersion that people simply don't want, except for the minority.

The 3ds bombed hard at the gate compared to the DS because it was so expensive due to the 3d that no one wanted. I was a first day buyer excited about it, and I used to defend the 3d a lot to people who thought it was stupid even at the time, yet did I use it hardly ever? No, nor did anyone else I knew. It was an expensive addon that no one wants and even if they wanted it, don't want that kind of price bump, just like VR. The 3ds started to sell well when it dropped the price from $250 to $170/180 (can't remember which) and had mario kart 7 came out (a game that is REALLY hard on the eyes to play in 3d, so I doubt many tried or wanted to due to the fast motion).

Apple and Nintendo's financials would be wise to stay away from VR.

I don't see it becoming mainstream if ever. Most people out there aren't interested in VR, we've seen it over the decades and it ends up becoming a gimmick or short fad.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

No.

VR won't be mainstream until a lot of big changes are made to the hardware. We're talking about really expensive and cutting edge technology.

Nintendo is not about cutting edge, not anymore, they are more about how to make a simple but innovative technology into a gameplay idea. VR is too complexe.

Apple is not investing into anything innovative anymore.

So no, I don't see any of them making VR popular.

Apple is investing in AR, not with headsets at first but it can be used for headsets too

I don't know about Nintendo. maybe some day.

Standalone headsets are already on the way, $200 OR next year.

VR is growing with lots of investments everywhere

Does this look like dead tech

It's just not worth it. Adding stuff to get things to work is the wrong thing to do. People want the device to go on and play whatever. Not wear glasses on top of glasses. A VR headset is the Sega Genesis/Megadrive with the 32X and CD connected to it. Too much bullshit to just have the games camera follow your head.

That's because there are no killer apps, Nintendo could change that.

Sales prediction, PS4: 122 Million, Xbox one: 50 million, Switch: 105 million.

Any major company can make a killer app. It's not dependant on Nintendo or Apple.
