Uhmm no Nintendo wiill not and rightfully so have any plans for VR. Wii motion control was revolutionary and poineering technology by Nintendo, Them coming on board with VR would just be another case of Johny come lately and we too kinda thing.

motion controls had been around for 10 years by the time the Wii released
what was revolutionary about it was Nintendo making it's console about it/quality software for the tech and ofcourse their big budget marketing campaign
coming late is not a problem, if you manage to "do it right" (or atleast can sell it as "done right"), like Apple with touch screen products
I don't believe VR will go mainstream for a very long time if ever. First it need to be stand-alone product, not be depended on smartphone, PC or console. Second VR is just clumsy to use and need to be solved too.
So yes VR is dead for now and most likely for a very long time.

1-0 against Grubby in Wc3 frozen throne ladder!!
I don't see Nintendo making a VR console that's in 4K that's going to release 5 years from now!

I agree, I was being optimistic, but maybe they could have a 1440p screen?

I don't think that they'll do even that.
There is no way VR will be big on mobile. You can't just just walk in the public wearing the headset without hit something. Not to mention you're going to look like an idiot while wearing that.
A handheld gamer only (for now).
All I know is, if Apple did do it, it would probably end up being the best selling VR headset of all time day 1.
