Phil is a comedian.
Make something the Japanese want. Phil spencer doesn't get it that his product is too close to Sony. He needs to realize that if you walk into Japan with as a Pepsi to their beloved coke you will need to bring a uniqueness that makes you special. Xbox is not soecial Japan, but rather a carbon copy of their home product that lacks Japanese games.

That game didn't even break a million according to the site. Micorsoft needs to make themselves unique to Sony or have more Japanese games than Sony to dent the Japanese market. A mix both would be good because Japanese like things that are unique. If their culture already supports them with products that cater to them better than the similar outsider brand, then it's a loss.

The XBO sold 300k in Sweden in 2015 http://www.dataspelsbranschen.se/media/154040/nordic-game-sales-2015.pdf Also sold 122k in 2014 http://www.dataspelsbranschen.se/media/151761/nordic_game_sales_2014.pdf |
Doesnt change my point, the Japanese Xbox One sales are similiar to smaller countries like Denmark, you dont see people calling for Microsoft to leave Denmark or x country

Historically Japan is a bigger market than Denmark and considering the XBO is selling 30k a year there it will be way more higher than Japan when it's all said and done. Since Japan is so much larger for gaming but sales all are similar right now to Denmark which is a lot smaller in the gaming market that's pretty bad for xbox in Japan and it doesn't seem like Microsoft can do much in that territory anymore.

It doesnt change my point
Why would they give up on Japan? They should not spend significant marketing money there, but there's no reason not to supply retailers there with systems and games to sell. Who cares if the sales are tiny? MS doesn't lose anything.
