Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will there be a market for a N64 mini next year?

God I hope so. SNES is probably my favorite all time console but N64 is the best multiplayer console hands down. Not to mention - Rare in their prime were near Nintendo quality, and they freaking crushed it on that console.

There are so many great multiplayer games on the console that me and my sister, friends, and cousins used to and still occasionally play, and having one device that can conveniently jump right to a game would be sweet. Plus, I've been waiting for an N64 controller to use for Wii virtual console (assuming the controller would support it).

I think that's a much tougher proposition than the NES and SNES. A lot of the early 3D games do not hold up very well today. Frankly, many of them totally suck to play at this point.

Also, the N64 was not anywhere near as popular as their two previous systems. So, I do not think it's a given that this is coming next year. Maybe they'll do something like a revised NES classic, with some additional games, to sell to people that couldn't get the first one.

Whilst accurate, some of the games *have* aged extremely poorly... The Nintendo 64 was still home to some of the greatest games of all time.
More people should be exposed to those titles in my opinion.

With that, if you are buying a *classic* console for graphics, then you are buying it for the wrong reason.

I agree that there are some great games there.  But, due to licensing issues, some of those (thinking of Goldeneye, and Donkey Kong in particular) likely would not make it to the system.

As for graphics - that's not what makes many games from that era suck.  Its the terrible cameras, and odd control schemes.

I hope so, because then that increases the chance of a gecub classic, which is my favorite console of all time. Imagine Rogue Squadron 2, super smash melee, Luigi's Mansion, Mario sunshine, star wars clone wars, omgsh I can't keep making this list of pure joy.

I think so. Expect less games too.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

I would love an n64 mini but it has to include mischief makers and ogre battle

The Polygon graphics of the N64 haven't aged as well as the graphics of Super Nintendo or NES games. I played Goldeneye recently on an HD tv and it wasn't a great experience, to put it mildly.

Lots of NES games haven't aged well.

People aren't buying this stuff because it "ages well", it's because of nostalgia.

Edit: post meant for another thread

If they build it, scalpers will come (probably literally).

In all seriousness, the controller alone would make this a much more expensive proposition - people are expecting multiplayer, so be ready to buy 2-3 additional $40 controllers. I'm thinking: Mario 64, Zelda OoT, Mario Party, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Starfox 64, Wave Race, Pokemon Snap, Donkey Kong 64.
