Some of us have TV setups that make it undesirable to have a cord hanging off the side of it.  Also, it just makes sense to provide a power source for an electronic device.

Well there is a powersource, just not an AC adapter.. which definately is more undesirable to some of us.

Splitting hairs there, but I think you understand what I mean.

But why can't they bundle it with some cheap micro-USB cord. They don't cost much.

It's kinda silly on Nintendo's part, but pretty much every home has a USB charger for their smartphone/tablet which will work.

I believe it actually comes with the USB cord, just not the power adaptor part. Nintendo figures people alreay have 1-2 laying around the house because of smartphones.

But there's no need for it. I dont really understand why it's included in NA. It's not a 3DS situation here.

No it's not.

It's it what powers it up? Without power it can't be turned on.

Power through USB. Which is included in the pack.

At least it can be powered through the USB into the TV.
But why do they always do this to Europe? Do they think AC adapters grow on trees here?

In a word ... yes?

How many households don't have a USB charger for a smartphone?

There should really be a law against it, it is just non-functional without it.

There are thousands of items that require batteries to run and are not sold with it.

Not including batteries is sensible from the standpoint that batteries are combustible by nature - ac adapters are not.

They can't sell you a console without a way to power it lol...right?

New 3DS...

Oh...
