Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo considering more Wii U games for Switch, against straight ports, approach to IPs

This information comes from Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime…

“The internal conversations we have is that on one hand, the development teams would love to showcase their content to a wider base, and certainly in short order the install base on Nintendo Switch will be larger than the install base we ended with Wii U.

“So there is that opportunity. What also drives the discussion, though is ‘what more will there be?’ Meaning, let’s take Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as an example. It needed to be the definitive version of that software for the consumer to be as excited as they are. Pokken Tournament DX with the additional fighters, the additional Pokemon, that was important for it to be an element of the game. What we are internally resisting is just a pure port, versus thinking about how not only do we showcase a game to a wider audience, but how do we make sure that there’s something more? So it’s an active discussion.”

On games highly anticipated by their fan bases…

“I thought I was going to make it a day at E3 without being asked about Mother 3. …Look, in the end, fill in your favorite franchise here. It comes down to how do we do something more? How do we do something unique? How do we take a franchise and make it vibrant with more and [reach] more people? That’s the focus. And so, even when you look at something like Metroid: Samus Returns, it’s not a pure remake. We’ve added more, we’ve added elements to expand the Metroid franchise and to make it more accessible and more vibrant. That’s how we think about our different franchises and different IP. So when one of our developers has an idea – and again, fill in your favorite franchise here — to take it and make it more vibrant, that’s when it will come to one of our platforms.”

Nintendo should port every WIi U game to Switch at this point. For a system that sold so poorly, it's a no brainer to make the games available to a larger audience.

Just port anything Wii U & 3DS that your able too.

would love Mario Maker again, it wasn't very good at the start imo as most levels were auto-runners, too difficult or straight up crap. But I have watched some vids on the levels made since, and the quality seems to have gone up, I regret ditching it so soon

Well, I cant see the riot from wii U owners, although they wouldnt need to buy the game again.
But just give discount to them. 60$ for the game, 30$ if you already have the digital game on wii U. Switch only owners would have access to the game, Wii U owners also would be happy with half price tag.

Id especially like hyrule warrios(add zelda botw content), xenoblade X, bayonetta 1 & 2, 3d world and DKCTF.
3DS's return of samus and mario sports would be very welcome too.

Honestly hope they port titles that were held back in some way by the system, not just block busters. Pokken is a great choice, the Switch allowed them to smooth out some rough edges on presentation. Xenoblade Chronicles X, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, these all deserve a second shot.

Oh and a super ultra deluxe edition of Hyrule Warriors that gives us all content from both versions would be pretty dang sweet.

Hyrule Warriors Ultimate and XBCX, please.

Also XBC HD.

One year Reggie is going to get in a fist-fight with a reporter who asks him about Mother 3.

Honestly, I think most publishers should have entry level studios. They can have these studios for entry level game development teams to remaster old games for new platforms and gain experience. There will obviously be demand for old games on new platforms. So just have a team that remasters Wii U, Wii, and GC games and have them come to the Switch. Seems like an easy way to make sales without influencing the development of new titles (it can't cost that much.)

Port it all!! Don't hold back Nintendo .
