Forums - Gaming Discussion - Opinion: way too late for KH3

KH 3 too late for the old gen who's moved on?

Too late 14 26.92%

It'll be a ff xv like success 22 42.31%

Nah it's early 5 9.62%

14 years lol 3 5.77%

Bye 8 15.38%

Total:52

Based on anecdotal evidence and discussion on gaming forums I've come to an interesting conclusion when it comes to the upcoming KH 3. Square Enix has lost their drive, and are likely to release a game that will not sell beyond a couple million copies.... the game has lost a significant amount of it's fan base since it's peak in 2006.

IS KH3 going to flop? Is it a case of way too late? Duke nuke 2.0????

Square took an incredible 11 years to release FF V XIII on a console a generation ahead of the one the game was originally announced for. The game pales in comparison to the likes of other open world ip like Zelda, Horizon, and GTA , and some others. The game received some criticism but due to the launch in the holidays and the rebranding of the game as FF XV, The game still ended up being successful( despite selling less than every other FF mainline experience since FF VII). Now kingdom hearts faces a similar pródigamente..... except the game is not a rebrand.

KH 3 Was teased in 2006...... we are now at 2017, and the game is being considered for release in around 3 years time.....

aka 14 years of development.... or since its original tease.....

the collections have released and they sold okay, but even with the boost on being on the most pop console since the ps2, these re releases have failed to go past 2 million units.....

a lot lot of people I knew were hyped for KH 3 since 06/07/08/09/10 lost hype and are older they aren't the same market who's going to buy the game ahymore.... some are still there( myself and other core gamers), but kingdom hearts which was considered a franchise to rival Final fantasy in popularity has fallen off tremendously....

because kh 3 is still on dev world..... and has been since 2006

what do do uguys think?

I've grown out of Kingdom Hearts, that's how long it's been. Anyone I know who has nostalgia for the PS2 titles don't care about KH anymore. I'm actually starting to wonder if a Kingdom Hearts style game is even appropriate to today's gamers. FFXV is basically Kingdom Hearts and I have no interest in that kind of gameplay.

Exactly my argument.... and FF XV was like a wannabe western game withFF elements

You couldnt have been more wrong.KH 3 was not first teased in 2007.That teaser was for BBS.Second, each of the remasters(taking out 2.8 of course) sold around 2 millions.2 Millions! Its just a remastered game.Fans like me that have already played the original games didnt buy the remaster, like me.

And again, KH 3 just began development around 2013/2014.Get your facts straight.

Now, will it sell well?(by that I mean around 6 or 7 millions)Who knows. But momentum is something that it has not lost.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Square Enix fans cannot be pleased. Regardless, you guys will buy it anyway

I stopped caring about KH years ago. Too much of the same stuff, convolution plots that make no sense, and the over 1 decade year wait for a sequel to 2. I've graduated from High School and will graduate from college next year, I'm over it.

I don't get why Square Enix takes so long to make games

It's crazy to think how we finished elementary, middle, and high school, and yet the game still isn't out. The game better have 500 hours worth of gameplay

Ignore this post, wrong thread.

As far as i know it isn't. But taking this long between installments is unnaceptable and will kill the series. People will just lose interest. Only reason i think this game might be ok is because it's the ending to the Xehanort saga. If you've invested in the previous games, you want to finish this.

KH3 started development in 2013, not 2006.
The KH series still has a sizeable fanbase, I don't know which gaming forums you visited but on big forums like Gaf and Gamefaqs there's a lot of anticipation for KH3, also there are many KH fan sites (KH13, KH insider).
The game will sell greatly as long as Square markets it well. They can easily use the Disney appeal to get a lot of new people on board of the KH series. Many kids would love to play with their heroes from their favorite Disney movies, like Big Hero 6, Tangled, Frozen and many other big movies.
