Are there any games that would honestly need 9GB of RAM?

Perhaps Star Citizen gets ported to Scorpio ;)

Am I the only one not excited about these specs from Scorpio? I mean 9GB ram is great, but knowing that there won't be any Scorpio exclusives making use of it, it doesn't really excite me. It's essentially all for the benefit of 4K: higher res assets etc of current gen games. 3rd parties arent gonna make a next gen game on their own either.

I hope I'm wrong and MS shows a Scorpio exclusive.

Nice this will bring game development forward

How?

You probably are not the only one not excited but that does not mean that the specs and engineering is not top for the time frame.  Its a mid gen console so it will not have any exclusives just like the PS4 Pro does not have any exclusives.  MS has already stated multiple times no exclusives for scorpio so you can pretty much kill that one on your wish list.  The key for MS is if they can show significant better visuals for previous and current games coming out.  If not then the scorpio will be regulated as a very nich device (I already believe its nich).

Its a mid gen console, why makes you think this is the last iteration for MS.  If anything when Sony is ready for their next gen so will MS.  The PS4 Pro and Scorpio will be the low end while the new consoles will be the high.  Having the scorpio as your low end seems pretty good for MS

It doesn't seem like a mid-gen refresh it seems like a whole new platform. I understand Microsoft have stated it will not have exclusive games but the hardware seems expensive and over-complicated. I can forsee it costing something like £399 in the UK while the ps4 pro is at £279 or even £249. The pro looks very cheap to make in comparison to the Scorpio.

So my Xbox one will run all the same games at 720p or 900p where as the Scorpio will run them at 4k or supersample 4k to 1080p?

I'm not sure I'm going to be interested in upgrading to be honest if the ps5 will hits stores 18 months later and a new Xbox perhaps a year after that.

To be honest, its pretty much on how you feel more than how the product is positioned.  Every indication from MS shows that the scorpio is positioned as a Mid Gen product.  Yes they could have came out at the same time as the PS4 Pro but chose that extra year to go bigger.  Its a calculated risk by MS and who knows if it will work or not.  Definitely it will not change the outcome of this generation but it could pick up a lot more steam as the low end console for the next.

As for the hardware its not over - complicated at all.  MS just added more cores and increase the memory.  They probably are using more advance cores for the GPU but nothing that changes it significantly enough from the current X1.  The CPU is the same but with an uptick in speed.  The PS4 Pro was and is very cheap for Sony to make and it shows because of all the limitations it has in achieving its results.  The Scorpio looks like MS looked at all the areas that were holding back the PS4 Pro and made sure they would not have those issues and thus it should achieve exactly what MS has stated it will.  Whether that garners gamers support will not be determined until E3 and when it goes on sale.

Yes, Witcher 3.

You don't need 9GB to run TW3. It uses just under 7GB.

I think the ram will help Scorpio run the games more like the PC version. Witcher 3 on regular xbox and ps4 use 5gbs so if the pc requres 7gbs the scorpio version will probably have similar performance to the pc version. Thats just my theory.

Fingers crossed for some sort of trade in deal that's actually decent. The Scorpio is sounding better and better every day...

Keep dreaming thinking that a $399-499 console Will run 4K and 60 fps native at scorpio.
