This shouldn't come as a surprise because Mario Kart games have comfortably crossed the 1m mark with each release while the last Zelda to sell over 1m units dates almost 20 years back.

Looks like Switch hardware will fall into the 25-30k units range until the release of ARMS Splatoon 2.

Not sure ARMS will do anything for Switch in Japan.

ARMS doesn't need to do anything because Nintendo can't keep with demand in any case currently, but Nintendo will most likely ship more consoles in week when ARMS launches.

Is this realy supply problem? I think sales goes down, because no super games come in may. ARMS is great, but don't up sales in Japan. We must wait for Splatoon 2 for return high sales.

BTW Switch does well.

Yes it is, all weekly shipments that Japan receives are sold out very fast. We will have higher sales when Nintendo can ship bigger number, but most likely they will ship bigger number in week when ARMS launches.

Switch will most likely hit 1m in week when ARMS launches because it will probably have bigger shipment that week, next two weeks will again most likely be 25-30k.

Ys 8 actually did better than I thought it would.

We are three months after launch now. Of the ten most recent systems before Switch, only the Wii faced supply issues at that point in time. Not the Xbox One, not the PS4, not the Wii U, not the Vita, not the 3DS, not the PS3, not the Xbox 360, not the PSP and not the DS.

What's happening with Switch is far from the norm.

I will have to do it this when I am home but both psvr and PS4 pro had supply issues continuing past holiday season. I can provide sources later. I can most likely pinpoint supply issue for other new sku as well. The only real argument you can present is new console launch. However I chose to say new hardware for a reason.

I'm with Rol on this, we had regular shipments of PS4 in january and even if they sold fast, customers didn't had to wait long for the next shipment. If you want a better exemple, people are waiting in store for deliveries every day for the Switch and last I saw that three months after launch was during the first year of the Wii.

Ultra Street Fighter 2 with a nice debut at number 3. With that and it hitting top 10 in the UK has really surprised me, for a quick port Capcom must be happy with these sales.

Yeah, I wonder what the worldwide lifetime sales will be. I bought it too, myself.

Actually if you are focusing on globally, you did say January. (Since Ps4 didn't launch till last week of February), Sony did have supply issues and I can provide sources of that, but it would be off topic and we did see someone else get in trouble for that last week. Also I was just discussing supply issues, I was not discussing demand side of things.

However Japan issues with Sony has been relative to PSVR, PS4 Pro, and the other nintendo device would be NES Mini (All three still do, I imagine PS4Pro supply chain had to have improved). Source for ps4pro and psvr : http://www.mobipicker.com/sony-apologizes-ps4-pro-psvr-supply-issues/

All three have the common issue of not enough supply and now most likely will never get the sales it most likely lost from not being supplied enough. NES Mini I think suffered the most from not meeting demand, could have sold insane numbers if it was during the holidays. Demand still exists, but nothing like Christmas demand.

You said "all new hardware", so it's your argument that is screwed, not mine. You can't enter a discussion about consoles and then change your mind that you were talking about anything but consoles.

Here, have another one.

So you don't consider other tech products hardware? Yes I exaggerated for effect but I stand by what I meant. That new hardware these days seem to have supply issues. Also I am talking about consoles as well, and things that I consume for gaming.

Add: But I don't just game on these pesky consoles anymore, I do also game on other devices, like Smartphones, retroboxes and have accessories that go with games that sell out. Overall things that have had supply issues.

In the context of a video game based website the word hardware is pretty much always used to refer to gaming hardware.  It's like if I said Shaq was not the all time best center on a basketball forum,  and when someone pressed me to name who was better I said Wayne Gretzky.  Or if I said Pokemon is not the best selling RPG franchise, and when someone asked me to name one that sold better, I said D&D.  In a gaming forum, it will naturally be assumed that you're using words in the context of gaming.

I worked at an electronics company from the launch of the Kinect through the PS4.  Between the Kinect, Move, 3DS, Vita, Wii U, XBox One, and PS4, none of those products had supply issues beyond 3 months.  PS4 may have come close.  So even as an exaggeration that doesn't work, because you couldn't even use "most" or even "many" accurately.

But... if you want to insist that you meant all hardware, your argument gets much worse.  Cause there's a lot of new hardware man.  There are controllers, keyboards, PC controllers, new laptops, new tvs, new cameras, headphones, dishwashers, vacuums, speakers, new ereaders and such coming out every day.  During my time working at Best Buy, there must have been hundreds of new pieces of hardware launched... which is why you really should be specific.

Of all of that hardware, I can only recall three shortages that lasted beyond three months.  The iPad 2, Ipad Mini, and the leap pad.  That's about it. Long term shortages are incredibly rare in the electronics business.  I would be willing to bet my life on the fact that it happens to less than 10% of new hardware.  If my life wasn't on the line, I'd probably guess that its less than 1% of new hardware.

So, whichever way you want to say you meant it, the statement doesn't hold up.

A little disappointed in the Vita port for Sangokushi 13 as I predicted at least 3k. Still better then the Switch port.

[PS4] Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII with Power-Up Kit (Koei Tecmo, 02/16/17) – 7,719 (New)

[PS4] Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 (Koei Tecmo, 01/28/16) – 20,101 (New)

[PS3] Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 (Koei Tecmo, 01/28/16) – 15,431 (New)

Switch ROTK 13- Didn't chart in Dengeki top 50, 17/03/30 <1300 sales

[PSV] Sankokushi 13 with Power Up Kit 17/05/25 2,831

Is there even a way to beat Nintendo in japan? how can anyone beat portability and giant franchises like Pokemon and Monster Hunter both exclusive to it?, btw not asking for Sony to make another portable but to find a way to compete with their consoles, i guess as long as japanese favor handhelds as much as they do they wont have a way.

Not at their own game.
