Nothing really can't stop Switch anymore in Japan, well that was case even before this announcement, but now it's even more obvious.

I'm not convinced that this will sell well. Even Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii only sold 1 million copies in Japan. I'm optimistic that it paves the way for future Monster Hunter titles on the Switch, though.

Huge difference is that Switch is not Wii, Switch is in some time handheld, ability to play game in full handheld mode is game changer for Japan compared to only home console play, especially for MH series that is much more popular like handheld game.

Right, and I think that the portability of the Switch will have a positive impact on other Monster Hunter titles.  This specific title, Monster Hunter XX, has already been released on the 3DS in Japan.

I am hoping for a good upgrade, not just just the resolution

In Japan they probably cut some of the legs off of it by launching late, but in the West I think the Switch version of XX will outsell the 3DS version so it's worth porting on that basis alone.

In any case really this is more about prepping the Switch audience for the future Monster Hunter 5.

It was released in Japan on 3DS, but this is 1st MH game in HD resolution on portable device, also fact that you can play home at TV is also nice addition, same like tabletop mode, regardles 3DS version people will be hyped about this game. And we already seeing that even smaller Switch games have good sales in Japan, so there is no reason to think that 1st MH game for Switch will sell bad.

MH3U (Wii U/2012) Certainly didn't look hideous, tho. So rest assured the Switch version will look better.

Still looks like a 6th gen game in HD though. Imagine how amazing a Monster Hunter game could look if it was built from the ground up for the Switch.

For, sure it would look amazing if built from the ground up, and I believe MH5 will (even if it's Switch/PS4). But I disagree about MH3U looking like a 6th gen in HD... I think you're probably wearing nostalgia glasses (don't worry, that happens with me sometimes too). It looked more like an early 7th gen open-world game:

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

This will be very succesful which means the next one will be made for Switch from the ground, great news.

Of course, that's what happened with this title, right?

Sales: 0.69 million according to VGChartz. Hardly "very successful", wouldn't you agree?
