You can do a character transfer but that will cost $20 or you can create a new character on what ever server you want but you will have to start over

Thanks for letting me know!  I thought about jumping in on this when it's complete but I guess I'll keep waiting.  

They're releasing a 'complete edition' and thought this meant it was the last expansion but i guess it's just 'complete' for now.

Well, jumping in at the end is almost always a bad idea, as the playerbase is likely to decrease with time.

There's a free trial out on all platforms that lets you play until level 30. Why don't you give that a shot?

There is a section in the settings for displaying the amount of characters on screen like down to 20 I think, but turning them all off, nope.

Well that sucks then. That's the biggest hang-up I have against MMOs. It's just annoying and destroys any kind of immersion.

Well, you have plenty of options to keep your player interactions limited. There are several servers with very small populations that will lead to you only encountering other players in cities. Considering 95% of the playerbase is at end-game, the low level areas are usually pretty sparse on players.
