50? I'd love to see that list. Are you counting JP only games like DQ Heroes 1-2,  Xenoverse 2 etc?

Gotta acknowledge this post, good man, you left out Disgaea 5 too, English version is out already for the system, great port of a ps4 game.

As for a new Sony handheld? If it could take SD cards I would buy it Day 1, if it had some clearly flawed memory system again... I would think about it... then buy it day 1 anyway. the Vita and PSP are two of the best handhelds ever created.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I really have no interest in mobile-handheld gaming right now and haven't for a while.

I've been alright with steering clear of Sony's handhelds since the beginning.

I'll be honest, a few Persona games would be enough to make me considering getting a new Sony portable.

Sony's desire to support the Vita was practically non-existent though, so I'd be reluctant in being able to say I'd be supporting a stable platform with a good foundation.

Anyway that's my take on a Sony portable. I could see it being a huge success personally but even if it sold only Vita numbers close to 20 million I still reckon its worth doing for all the benefits it brings Sony and the lack of R&D costs needed. Being x86 based pretty much the same developers can knock out a game for ps4, ps5 and this device for game experiences that don't rely on high gpu or cpu resources.

I really liked your post, I agree with it in many ways, and disagree in some, but overall it is great thinking outside of the traditional console/handheld box.

The quoted part I agree with highly. The fact that Sony is using standard CPU/GPU tech from AMD with minor optimization for their OS and Ecosystem, and they have moved too scalable game engines even in house thanks to PS4 Pro, the idea of other products in the PlayStation ecosystem makes a ton of sense. The R&D is a team effort between them, AMD, and the rest of AMD's parteners. They are basically building a cart of AMD tech and having a high yeild, high volume chip made. The risk is extreamly low, the investment is basically at a marketing level only, as the OS, Software, and Services are already built.

As I have already said, I fully trust Sony with another Handheld. I think it only makes since if it can be put on your cell plan as a phone. I am extreamly impressed with the support they gave Vita in the face of its massive faliure. I still use my Vita every day, and in my opnion it was the best Phone on the market until they killed Skype about a month ago. If Sony delivered a Mobile PlayStation built around the PS4 ecosystem, I would be all over it.

Love the Vita, I've got 2 one with my uk psn account and the other with m us psn account (which I got cheap as it doesn't read cartridges). Both are the original version. The psp sold great numbers and I think Sony just need to realise what people want from a portable and that to me is more convenience rather than performance. I think they should aim more for a beautiful desirable and especially affordable device rather than try and steal the portable performance crown.

After 2 years. At launch? Hellll naw.

I'd buy one assuming it's sold at a loss.

So wait. So far, it's looking like after 4 home consoles, Sony will have 4 of the 5 best selling home consoles of all time.

.. and you expect that to drop off a point in the next 8-10 years that Sony won't bother with a 6th home console? What's the logic there?

If we're going off past performance, has Sony or anyone else ever beat a portable Nintendo console? Nobody has been able to compete with a half-strength Nintendo portable, even Apple should be worried about a full strength one.

Nintendo is sat on their own little island where nobody can get them. They have all the time in the world, they're not going anywhere and they're only going to get stronger. Nintendo can 'outrange' Sony for as long as they want without repercussion. Sony has to go portable if they want to stop the inevitable but they can't. That's what's so great, this is some Sun Tzu level shit.

The inevitable being that, just like with walkmans, cellphones, ipods, laptops, netbooks, tablets, 3G/4G, portability wins out as the performance/quality gap gets smaller and smaller.

When 'phonelines' are replaced by full wifi coverage and mobile internet, what's Apple left with when every device becomes a 'phone'?

If Apple can use music to steal Sony's walkman cookie and then move onto to taking Windows' cookie too, why can't Nintendo use games to become some kind of portable family computer?

Not saying it will happen, just saying it could happen.
