Wasn't a problem though, as it could still register a stab just fine. |
But could you stab forward, keep the sword held forward then swing it left and right to further-attack your foes?, no. because it was a simple accelerometer triggered attack, not an active input, and that's what he's talking about.

You didn't need to, the combat systems didn't require it. You could stab enemies, or swing at them from different angles or varying strengths. That was enough for it to be both satisfying and effective.

But that's not the point, specifically:
"it doesn't recognize forwards/backwards depth."
It doesn't. it detects acceleration only.

That's enough though for it to still be able to respond to z-axis motions like thrusts or stabs in practice though.
Skyward Sword, Splatoon, WarioWare Smooth Moves, Punch-Out Wii and Wii Sports

I know, and i'm not arguing that, what i'm saying is that it doesn't recognize forwards or backwards depth, it physically cannot, if a game cheezes it using the accelerometer or not does not change that.
If a game wanted to do something that needed to know the exact z-axis of the controller, it couldn't be done.

I think we're on different tracks here, cos I'm not denying that either. The Wiimote does not track its exact z-axis position, on that we agree. It can however still utilize z-axis motions such as thrusting or stabbing by approximation, on which we also seem to agree.

Skyward Sword. Best combat in any adventure game.

I forgot about the balance board, Shaun White snowboarding was very good with that. It was also the worst in We Ski.
